BOEM: One of My Fashion Favs + A GIVEAWAY!!! July 7, 2016 | Today’s post is so fun and a little different…I’m partnering with one of my favorite businesses in Charlotte and am sharing not only their fun new ONLINE shop, but also a little about the owner Megan (who just happens to be one of my favorite #BossBabes) and there’s huge GIVEAWAY to do some shopping for yourself!! BOEM (formerly Scout and Molly’s) is definitely my favorite local spot to shop for the most on trend clothing and accessories. They are located right in the heart of SouthPark and their selection is truly so impressive and always on trend. What I love most is that their price points vary, so you can go in knowing that there’s always something in your price range…even if that means under $50! Now that they launched shopboem.com, I can finally share the love with you guys, because you can now shop their fab selection from anywhere! I went in a few weeks ago and picked out my favorite looks, all of which are budget friendly and shoppable on their site! I’m also interviewing Megan and asking for more details on how she got started and some tips on being an entrepreneur. Lastly, there’s a big ole’ giveaway that you don’t want to miss at the end! This flowly floral dress and rustic antler necklace combo is such a fun play on a casual boho look. The dress is fully lined, button front (really great for any nursing mamas), and is super easy to wear on warm summer days. I added this necklace for some texture and love that it can be worn all year around with so many different outfits! Q: Boem recently made a few huge transitions, the first being a total re-branding from Scout and Molly’s and the second being the addition of the .com shop. Tell me why the re-branding and also why do you think that it’s important for brick and mortar stores to have a .com piece? A: Yes, big changes ’round here! Scout & Molly’s was originally a licensing agreement, meaning I was individually owned and operated but using the name and branding. The original store out of Raleigh recently brought on an investor and hired a company to franchise the brand across the nation. This was awesome for them, but wasn’t what I was looking for. It means something to me to stay individually owned and operated and I think people care about the personality I infuse into the store. I didn’t want to dilute that at all. Our next move was to launch e-commerce, which has been so fun! It’s been awesome after almost 8 years of the brick-and-mortar to learn something new. We get so much traffic off Instagram that a website just seemed like the natural progression. And we want everyone in Boem, everywhere! Q: What made you take the leap into owning your own business? Did you always have a love for fashion or did you have more of a desire to be an entrepreneur, or both? A: Gosh, that’s such a funny question because I did it so naively. I wanted to shop for a living, ya know?! But owning a business is SO much more, and I am lucky that I have a knack for that side of things, too. Honestly I think that no one knows how much work owning a business is until you do it because you really never get to be off (except I did just go to sailing in the BVIs with no wi-fi so I was like byeeeeeee haha). Being an entrepreneur is SO rewarding though, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Floral Dress $106 | Antler Necklace $59 I mean this little off the shoulder number is just beyond. The crochet trim and flouncy details are perfectly girly and the $50 price point cannot be beat! The cutest dress to wear in the heat of July and August for a patio date night. I added pom + beaded necklaces for an extra pop of color. They are great to pair with so many things, even a plain white tee and denim shorts. Q: Any tips for gals interested in owning their own business? A: Girls email me all the time about this and I am all about WOMEN HELPING WOMEN!! I would say: know what you’re getting into. I didn’t really know the full extent of what it entailed to run a biz before I opened mine and it would have been nice to know (not that it would have changed my mind). Q: What trends are you most excited about for Fall? A: It’s so funny because I always get this question as we go into Fall and I am about to start buying Spring again, so Fall is kind of a distant memory if you can believe that! Here’s what I’m loving: Suede, embroidery, plaid, and chokers. True 90s girl right here. Off the Shoulder Dress $50 | Pom Necklace $42 (each) I love this casual look because it’s how I dress on a daily basis. I have this camo tee in the long sleeve version and have worn it so much that there are literally holes in it (#shame). I was so happy to see it available in this flattering tank option for summer (see this beautiful aqua version HERE), as it’s perfect to pair with my trusty distressed denim shorts. I added this southwestern statement necklace (sold out , but see this beaded bandana for the same look!) for some extra interest. Q: What’s YOUR current favorite piece available on shopboem.com? A: Ah, that’s so hard because we pretty much sit there all day and stare at the racks and talk about how we want everything! My latest purchase was the Sweet Slumber Dress! Z Supply Tank $34 | Distressed Denim Shorts $110 (size down) Next up was another off the shoulder dress that I totally fell head over heels for. I love the southwestern print and of course the $50 price point (it’s since sold out, but theres a very similar one available for the same price HERE). I paired it with this suede lariat necklace (you already know I’m obsessed because they were in yesterdays post, too!) and love the rich color, perfect to transition to Fall! Q: I’m a little biased but I think that you are one of the coolest boss babes in Charlotte…how do you balance being a business owner and still maintain great relationships with employees, customers and other biz owners? A: Well, you’re the sweetest. The relationships are what it’s all about for me. A lot of my customers I have had for years. I helped the same customer shop for rush at Clemson, maternity clothes for her pregnancy, and work clothes for her corporate job! So that’s super cool (and may make me feel a bit old lol). I also am lucky to have some of the same girls working for me for 5+ years. We have fun and I literally could not do it without them. I am also fortunate to have great friendships with lots of other girl bosses, including other local boutique owners. It all comes down to women helping women, right??
