Boyfriend Jeans 101 February 24, 2016 | Ladies, let’s talk about boyfriend jeans. If I’m being honest, I’ll tell you that I have been avoiding them like the plague. I’ve had the notion that since I’m not a size 00 that they just aren’t for me and they certainly wouldn’t be flattering. Surely a woman with curves shouldn’t wear this style, right?! Wrong. I finally caved in and tried some on and am absolutely obsessed. Today I’m giving some tips on how to wear boyfriend jeans and how to make this trend work for you and your body type. See how I styled my boyfriend jeans for a fun Girl’s Night Out and keep reading for some tips on how to style them into your closet… Facts: I am a size 6. I’m 5’9. And I have curves that I have a love hate relationship with. These 3 facts are what held me back from embracing this trend, but I’m so glad that I gave in because you can really make boyfriend jeans work for ANY body type…here are some tips: In the late winter (and if you have to wear a jacket), opt for a cropped moto jacket or blazer. I’ve found that if you create a break in the silhouette above your hips, it’s a much more flattering look. Don’t cover up your hips with a long tunic or jacket as it makes for a messy silhouette and makes your shape appear boxy. If you have to wear a jacket, always opt to wear the boyfriend jeans with heels. Although they can definitely be worn with flats or sneakers (see below), if you have weight on the top and bottom of your outfit (jeans + jacket/sweater), use heels to give your legs some length and also add some glam to the silhouete. In the warmer months, pair boyfriend denim with a more snug fitting top like a racerback tank. This shows off your arms and shoulders while the denim is a more loose fitting silhouette. Pair this back to some casual converse sneakers for running errands. Use small style tricks to flatter. Consider adding a belt or doing a front tuck (like I’m doing below) to break up the boxy silhouette and show off your waist. Small tricks like this make a HUGE difference when playing around with proportions. Shop the Look: Distressed Denim (distressing varies) Cropped Leather Jacket Grey Sleeveless Sweater Tank $10 (!!)
