ONE ROOM CHALLENGE: WEEK THREE April 17, 2014 | Hello from Week THREE of the One Room Challenge! If you are new, you can catch up on my plans to re-work our Living Room/Breakfast Nook here and here. Wow, here we are at the halfway point, and geez I might need to kick it up a notch. A little progress was made this week, but not nearly what I had planned on. My view for the past 3 days has looked like the below photo. I swear that I have the immune system of a gnat and get any and every stomach bug that I come into contact with. THE.WORST.! be gone please be gone! Needless to say, my to-do list is virtually where I left you last week. wah. wah. Here are a few things that did get done before the bug hit… These gals got some new duds and I am thrilled with the buffalo check on them. The perfect unexpected “traditional” print to throw into the mix. Let there be paint! The painters came on Friday and I have to admit I re-thought my painting decision beforehand. The drapes actually have quite a bit of beige in them and they would look quite good against the existing color….but in the end it came down to the fact that the space HAD to be brighter to be livable to me and to achieve that the walls needed to be white. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the end result and the room feels tons bigger. We don’t even have to turn on the overhead lights during the day and that makes me so happy. I did leave the one wall beige though as more of a “focal” wall and to still ensure that the fireplace stands out. The plans for that wall are below as well. The drapes came back from the seamstress and are now three separate panels to work with. Still in love with them. This week we are moving on to curtain rods, focal wall install, and (if the hubs is feeling nice ambitious) cornice boxes for the breakfast area. I am sort of torn on the living room rods though…so weigh in. I originally thought that I wanted to do a galvanized pipe DIY rod that I would just spray antique gold. I love that this option would be a statement (should I use the 1” pipe) and it would also be sturdy enough to hold the bad boys above, all while adding an unexpected rustic element to the room. The other part of me just wants to spray an old rod gold and call it a day. Thoughts? Both images via Pinterest Lastly, I have been desperately searching for the breakfast nook bay window treatment solution and think that I have finally settled on the idea of cornice boxes. This photo is very very ambitious but I have faith in my handy-man aka husband. Would something like this not be gorg?! Mius the heavy drapes because my area is too small, but the detail on the boxes kills me…I love it image via Until next week my friends! In the meantime check out everyone else here…..and below! Kathleen OneofaBillion says April 17, 2014 at 4:08 PM What awful timing for a stomach bug! You seem to have accomplished a bit though. By the way, your fabric is wonderful, I can't wait to see those drapes in place.

aquahaus says April 17, 2014 at 10:51 PM I actually love that type of rod. Easy, yet lends a great industrial vibe.
charmingincharlotte@gmail.com says April 18, 2014 at 2:55 AM Oh good! I decided to go with it and had it all cut tonight…fingers crossed on a smooth DIY! xo
Elisa of Fancy Free Me says April 18, 2014 at 12:26 AM Love the design for the cornices. I like the idea of the pipes too, just make sure you don't go too far without a center support…I don't know how wide your window is so you may not even need one. Cant wait to see what you decide!
charmingincharlotte@gmail.com says April 18, 2014 at 2:57 AM So they are the rod needed to be 88' long and I went ahead and had him cut it into 44' inch sections with a connector, etc…esp since the drapes are so heavy, I thought that the extra support was a must. I'm glad you said that though, so I know that I'm not crazy. Thanks E! xo
Carol@6WilsonBlog.com says April 18, 2014 at 11:27 AM Your plan is sooooo pretty. And I gasped when I saw the chair with the check — to.die. The idea of the pipe rods is fantastic, I say keep going with it. I love the unexpected.

kate@willowinteriors says April 22, 2014 at 12:54 PM Wow, for a sick week you got a ton accomplished! Those drapes are gorgeous! I did the galvanized pipe rods in my sons room for the last ORC (but left them silver)…love them gold! Nice choice leaving the fireplace wall darker!
