Denim Fit Review for Real Women! January 21, 2018 | Good Sunday Morning, Friends! I hope that you guys are having a great weekend and I’m so thankful that you’re spending a little time with me here today. I have a huge and very exciting post for you today with a long and thought out denim fit review! This post has been a long time in the making for quite a few reasons, so indulge me in a little detail before I get started… You see, I’ve always carried my weight in my lower half. My thighs have always been BFFs and I’m always had junk in the trunk. It’s taken me a very long time to embrace my shape (and actually come to like it), but that’s not to say that it makes shopping for jeans easy at all! Most days I would rather walk across hot coals with no shoes on than to go shop for new jeans. Sizing is always inconsistent and honestly I leave feeling like jeans aren’t made for women shaped like me. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think that I’m overweight, but I do think that there actually takes some thoughtful design details to create a pair of jeans that fit the actual shape of a woman’s body…and sadly that’s a rare find…especially for under $100! When I found “THE” jeans back in the Fall (ie a pair of jeans that were uber flattering and inexpensive that are sold out now) it was a huge eye opener for me. Hundreds and hundreds of readers bought them and sent me countless photos, videos and rave reviews of themselves wearing them. It made me realize that there were actually a ton of you out there like me who were on the struggle bus to find new jeans and now I’m on a mission to help you guys with that, because nothing feels better than a well fitting, go-to pair of jeans! So consider today a major step out of my own personal comfort zone in hopes of introducing you to some new brands, styles and fits that you can count on to be flattering, have the right fit AND go easy on your wallet! I stuck to the skinny jeans silhouette for now, as I feel like it’s the absolute hardest to get right and tried to select a variety of washes, rises and details to really give you some options. There’s also a full video below that shows a real time try on of each pair so that you can see them in action, along with my initial reaction to each and some fit details. I would love love love your feedback on this post! xoxo Reference the video first and then here are all of them broken down one by one 🙂 OPTION ONE | LOFT MODERN SKINNY BUTTON FRONT $79.50 (HALF OFF TODAY) I’ve had these for a while now and really do like the fit. These were the first LOFT jeans that I’ve owned and I have to say that I’m impressed. In these, I went with my normal size (28), but have learned my lesson that I should always size down in LOFT because after a few hours of wear these look a little too stretched out for my liking. They are a mid rise and the button front really holds that lower belly in. These have a raw hem, so some on-trend details and most of the time (LIKE TODAY) they are half off, making them right under $40! 4/5 stars from me OPTION TWO | WIT AND WISDOM AB-SOLUTION STRETCH SKINNY JEAN ($68) I’ve spoken to this brand before and I really do think that they are a major hidden gem. The brand is Wit and Wisdom and they do wonders for the shape. Some of their styles have what they call “ab-solution” technology built inside of them and it’s a game changer! It’s a thick band of elastic around the waist band that keeps these babies in place come hell or high water. Chasing the kids around or just avoiding plumbers butt in general, you have GOT to try these! Make sure to size down, I’m wearing a size 4 here. 5/5 stars from me OPTION THREE | WIT AND WISDOM DARK SKINNY JEAN ($64) These are another pair or Wit and Wisdom, this time without the ab-solution waistband. I own this pair in a lighter wash and if you’ve followed along through the Fall know that I wore them in a TON of posts. They are a go-to, slimming pair of dark jeans and I’m always impressed with the price tag. Again, size down here. I’m wearing a size 4 above. 4/5 stars from me OPTION FOUR | MADEWELL 9” RISE BUTTON FRONT BLACK SKINNY JEANS ($135) This fit review was my first time really trying on Madewell jeans and let me tell you it was impressive. They are on the more expensive side of this post, but I’m going to tell you well worth it. This black pair felt like one of their fashion styles with the button fly and scarecrow hem. So cute and uber flattering on. They aren’t a stark black, but more like a washed black which is really on-trend. Cute to wear with sneakers and ideal for booties as the hem hits right above the bootie. I’m wearing my regular size 28 in these and felt like they fit, although other reviews say to size down…do if you are on the fence of sizes I would recommend sizing down here. 4/5 stars from me OPTION FIVE | LOFT MODERN SKINNY / ORIGINAL ($69.50) Another LOFT modern skinny fit (this is the original) and WOW these were impressive you guys! So so slimming and a pair of jeans that you’ll want to wear every single day and can easily dress up or down. If you’re looking for a no-frills pair that you’ll reach for everyday, buy these babies NOW as they are half off today and only $35! I just ordered a pair for myself. Make sure to size down here as well, I’m wearing a 27 in the photos above. (also in Tall and Petite fits, I’m wearing regular) Major 5/5 stars from me! OPTION SIX | LOFT MODRN SKINNY IN BLACK ($79.50) Another Modern Skinny fit from LOFT but this time in a dark black, with some style details. They have a split hem, which is so cute to wear with flats or mules and are overall very flattering and slimming. Also half off today at around $40! 4/5 stars from me OPTION SEVEN | LOFT CURVY CROPPED JEAN ($79.50) Ok, so this is the curvy fit from LOFT and I actually much prefer the modern skinny. I felt that this curvy style made me look more curvy, which wasn’t necessarily what I was going for. I didn’t hate the overall look, but this style wasn’t something that I would buy for myself. I’m also wearing a 28 here, so I wasn’t able to size down in the curvy fit like I was in the modern skinny. 3/5 stars from me. OPTION EIGHT | HIGH RISE SLIM BOY JEAN ($128) This was more of a fashion style from Madewell. It’s their high rise, slim boyfriend jean. I personally really really liked them, but I don’t think that the fit would be for everyone. I would wear these with a cute tank and sandal in the Spring. I’m wearing a 28 here. 4/5 stars from me OPTION NINE | MADEWELL 10″ HIGH RISE SKINNY ($128) Another fashion forward option from Madewell. These are their 10” rise (which I LOVED), in a lighter wash with a cute tulip hem. The rise was on point, but the wash wasn’t something that I would buy for myself. Overall decently flattering and TTS (wearing a 28). 3/5 stars from me OPTION TEN | 10” HIGH RISE SKINNY / BUTTON FRONT WITH SLIGHT DISTRESSING ($135) This was another 10” rise from Madewell, with a few fashion details. There’s slight distressing and a raw hem and when I put these on I immediately thought that they would make a great everyday jean for moms. Still trendy, but comfortable and functional to chase kids in because the 10” rise is keeping everything in place. Wearing a 28 regular here, but they come in FOUR lengths! 4/5 stars from me OPTION ELEVEN | MADEWELL 10″ HIGH RISE DARK SKINNY JEANS ($128) Ok these are showstoppers y’all. The 10” rise in this really dark wash creates the most slimming illusion. I felt like a million bucks in these and they will absolutely be my next pair of jeans that I invest in. You know those items that you can’t stop thinking about after trying on…yep, that’s what these are. Wearing a 28 here. MAJOR 5/5 stars from me OPTION TWELVE | MELODY SKINNY JEANS ($64) I have a few pair of jeans from this brand, so I picked these up for the fit review. They “fit” well and looked decent on, but I wasn’t overall thrilled with the wash. They run TTS. 3/5 stars from me OPTION THIRTEEN | BLACK STRECH SKINNY JEANS $59 These are the same brand as the ones above, but I like the look quite a bit better. The dark black is very flattering and I see them as a great option for a black pair of jeans that you can wear a ton and not break the bank. Wearing a 28 here. 4/5 stars from me OPTION FOURTEEN | SP BLACK RIPPED SKINNY JEANS ($58) These are by the same brand as “the” jeans from this Fall. They are a very light + distressed wash, which was quite a bit out of my comfort zone. Initially I wasn’t a huge fan, but they did grow on me and I could see myself wearing these as a very casual, everyday option. The rise is fairly low and the denim is actually much softer than I expected. Wearing a 28 here. 4/5 stars from me OPTION FIFTEEN | LEVI’S HIGH RISE BUSTED KNEE ($88) These jeans have been getting quite a bit of hype all over the internet, so I had to try them for myself. They are very very old school denim in the fact that there’s virtually no stretch to them. To be quite honest, I had to lose 5lbs to even comfortably fit into my normal size. Although I realize that this is probably turning you off from them thus far, I’m wearing them a TON now. I’ve come to appreciate that they hold their exact shape and I love the look of the busted knee. I’m wearing a 28 here, size up if you are ever on the fence. 4/5 stars from me Shop all Levi’s HERE OPTION SIXTEEN | SARAH SKINNY JEAN / LIGHTWASH + DISTRESSED ($64) I posted these light washed jeans on Instagram a few weeks ago and they’ve been a HUGE hit! They really do have a great fit and flattering silhouette, especially for a light wash. I’ve worn them a ton as a casual, everyday jean On top of that, I’ve been stopped by strangers to ask what brand they were, which is always surprising to me. If you want a light wash for Spring, buy these babies NOW. I’m wearing a 28 here. BIG 5/5 stars from me! Jackie T. says January 21, 2018 at 1:49 PM Wow, awesome post Mallory! Very helpful…I’m 5’8, 140#, long torso and usually a 28/6, and definitely need a higher rise as well so this was a great post for me. 😉 I have worn Levis Mid-Rise Skinny in 28’s for years, however my favorite pair is from 6 years ago and they no longer make that finish so I too have been on the hunt… You’ve got me interested in trying the LOFT jeans for sure now, especially at that price point. I really like the Madewell high rise on you too. Thank you for all the time and research you put into this video and post, love it. 🙂
Jenny says January 21, 2018 at 3:34 PM How tall are you? Just curious where the hem on some of these would hit me! Thanks!
Jenna says January 21, 2018 at 5:56 PM Have you tried American Eagle jeans? I’ve aged out of their clothes (for the most part) but their jeans are absolute staples and the price is always right. Many fits and washes to choose from too. Would love to see what you think about them! As soon as I have this baby and can get back into normal jeans again, I’m going to Madewell!!
Charlotte C. says January 21, 2018 at 11:07 PM Loooved this post! Super helpful! I will be doing a try on sesh at Nordstrom for sure!

Martha says January 22, 2018 at 10:28 AM Thank you for stepping out and doing this for us! Based on your review, I’m going to try the LOFT Modern Skinny because they come in tall (yay!!) which is great for this 5’11” girl. Bonus was they were 50% off. Fingers crossed!

Julie says January 22, 2018 at 3:24 PM I also carry most of my weight on the bottom and Madewell has quickly become one of my favorite denim brands. I LOVE my 10″ high rise jeans. I’m curious to know if you tried the Madewell Roadtripper jeans. The price point is a little lower than their other jeans. I highly recommend them. https://www.madewell.com/madewell_category/AllProducts/PRD~G1627/G1627.jsp?Nbrd=M&Nloc=en_US&Nrpp=48&Npge=1&Ntrm=roadtripper&isSaleItem=false&color_name=DARRYL%20WASH&isFromSearch=true&isNewSearch=true&hash=row0
Juli says January 22, 2018 at 3:48 PM Did you try the Madewell Roadtripper jeans? They are cheaper than the others and I highly recommend them. I also own and love the 10″ high rise.
Katie says January 22, 2018 at 4:11 PM Thank you thank you! Just ordered #5, hopefully they work! What white t are you wearing in all the photos btw?
Amanda says January 22, 2018 at 9:52 PM I just want to clarify something. On option #16 it says Sarah Skinny Jeans, but the link is for the Vigoss Edie jeans. Your picture looks like you are wearing the Vigoss ones. I wanted to be sure I was getting the right ones Thanks! Love this post!!
Naomi @HuntingforPinkFlamingos says January 23, 2018 at 10:32 AM I love this! Buying jeans is the WORST, so posts like this are really helpful! xx – Naomi http://huntingforpinkflamingos.com/
Jessica says January 24, 2018 at 7:11 AM What size do you go with for the madewell T-shirt you are wearing in this post? We have similar body types so whatever size you have should fit me :). Thanks so much!!
Jen says January 24, 2018 at 7:41 PM Oh the dreaded gap. Big enough to toss a cat in ????????. I found the Dream Harmony Lee jeggings work well for me. But they do not have belt loops which makes it difficult for some looks. Very thankful for this superb post. As I have ordered and tried on many pairs of jeans as well. I am gonna try the Sara skinny distressed jean.
