Carpool Chic: Because You’re Not A Regular Mom, You’re a Cool Mom

Today I’m partnering with Nordstrom to talk Athleisure style and their amazing assortment of active outerwear for Fall. I joked on Instagram that I was going to call these looks “Carpool Chic” and I actually think that there’s some legit reasoning behind the name…I kind of want #carpoolchic to be a “thing.” My definition of Carpool Chic is an outfit that’s comfortable, effortless and easy, yet chic and stylish all at the same time. It’s a few key pieces that you can rely on to feel put together in the carpool line, when in reality you’re a hot hot mess. See how I used these key outerwear pieces from Nordstrom to put together some seriously cute + casual outfits that are uber comfortable!

First, let’s talk about this poncho. When I saw it show up in the activewear session, there was NO doubt in my mind that I could resist buying it. I already love a good poncho, so the thought of having a go-to casual poncho that I could throw on over my leggings…signed, sealed delivered, my friends! It’s made by one of my favorite outerwear brands and is the perfect piece to switch up and switch out your worn out fleece jacket for. Ladies, there are very few pieces that I urge you to buy, but this IS one of them. I think that every college student, busy mom, or even retired women could easily wear on a daily basis…whether to lounge, run errands, or look chic in the carpool line. It’s an effortless and functional piece that has a high cool factor. To those of you who see me at school drop off…please don’t judge me for how many times I am likely going to wear this during the Fall and Winter. mmmkkk??

Next up, I talked about these leggings a ton during the Anniversary Sale and even showed them on video in this blog post all about Athleisure! Not only are they by Zella (aka my favorite activewear brand at Nordstrom), but the cut and placement of the print makes them flattering…even for us gals who don’t typically wear an all over printed legging. The black inserts draw the eye in and the mesh panels make them legit breathable. They are functional at the gym and cute in the carpool…win, win my friends! Also, they are ON SALE for $31 in 3 colors…whohoo!

It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with my new kicks. Initially, I saw my cute teenage neighbors wearing them and thought that I might be just a tad too old to rock them, but I was wrong my friends! They are the most comfortable sneakers that I own and I can wear them with anything from these leggings to a boyfriend jean and t-shirt. They give any outfit just a hint of edge and offer a sly nod to all of those cute teenagers, like “Hey girl, I still know what’s up…” 

Sizing info: they do run big. I was able to size down a half size for a perfect fit, but if you are at all between sizes, I would recommend sizing down a full size.

Next up is this super sleek quilted jacket paired with my all time favorite, wear too much, absolute GO-TO legging! I mean how sexy is this jacket??! It’s so sleek and polished and kind of a statement piece in it’s own right. It’s a great slim fit so that you can easily wear it to the gym over a fitted athletic top or wear it as part of an athleisure outfit, which is how I styled it.

Normally, I am a bit hesitant of a “regular length” (for lack of a better term) athletic jacket, because I am not a fan of the leggings as pants look other than in the actual gym. Since this jacket had the style details of a moto jacket, but the functionality of an athletic jacket I knew that I could make it work. I threw on my go-to turtleneck tunic sweater (aka cover up your hiney, girl) with this amazing quilted jacket and layered them both over my favorite pair of leggings for an outfit that’s cool and chic all at the same time. Honestly, no one is questioning your style factor in this jacket. Oh HI, it’s machine washable, too!

So, the only thing that we have yet to discuss is this backpack. What do we think? I think that I’ve actually been searching high and low for a cute, understated backpack and I’ve finally found one that I love! Honestly, they are SO easy to sling over your shoulders and allow you to have both hands free to wrangle kiddos. Moms, we should all be embracing this trend with open arms while it lasts. This super cute backpack is only $55 and a great way to adopt the trend without breaking the bank!
