black 2 piece dress

…okay not really a ball gown, but certainly a black 2 piece dress to remember! Remember the great dress debate last week on Instagram?? I was trying to decide on a dress for my hubby’s Christmas party and was torn between this Little Black Dress (really classic, with an unexpected plunge back) and this 2 piece Jacquard knockout? Well, I went to Nordstrom to buy the two piece (trusting you guys, as it was the clear winner) and wah wah it was sold out in my size. It was already at the top of my budget and I would have had to pay over $50 to have it rush shipped, and, well, it became a little less desirable at a nearly $400 price tag. After I dried my tears, I began to scour the racks and look at ways that I could re-create the look. Not only did I find an amazing alternative, but I also saved a few bucks! Here’s what I came up with…

A few of you on Insta were a little nervous about a 2 piece for a work Christmas party, so I thought that I would talk about the fit a little more. First, know that my husband works in a laid back industry, so anything goes for the Christmas party. There are women in cocktail dresses, gowns, and even jumpsuits…so I wasn’t at all worried about the 2 piece. Staying on that subject for a little bit though, I think that the modest crop is a great way to show a little skin, be on trend and feel great! There are no age limits on them, so throw that all out of the window!

I sized down in in both the top and the skirt and went for smalls in both (I’m typically a Medium). I wanted the skirt to fit a little higher on the waist and the small did the trick. I’m 5’9 and the skirt was just right length wise, but I did have to wear short 3′) heels with it.

This beautiful Rachel Ryen hasn’t left my right hand for over a week now. I am obsesesd with the labradorite stone set in gold with a dainty diamond halo. I’ve gotten countless compliments on it and love it’s neutral color. It’s on major sale HERE.
