Workwear to Weekend | Fall Tops That are Functional September 12, 2017 | Good morning Friends! How are you today? I’m going to just go ahead and re-start the week today, because yesterday was entirely too emotional with it being 9/11 and being glued to the Hurricane coverage. I hope that the sun is shining bright where you are today and that all of you in Florida fared the storm well…my prayers are with you for the rebuilding road ahead. Now if Mother Nature could just calm down, grab herself Pumpkin Spice Latte and move along with some gorgeous Fall weather…that’d be greatttt. After the ever popular Capsule Wardrobe that I posted a few weeks ago, I got some great feedback from readers that they wanted to see the same thing, but more workwear focused. I reached out to my girlfriends who work outside of the home and many of them said the same thing…they tend to buy pieces that function for both workwear AND weekend. They like when (tops especially) can be versatile enough to wear in the office with a blazer and a pants and still work with jeans and booties on the weekend. I was actually a little shocked that people expected that much from their clothes and was a wee bit nervous about finding pieces that a. I would actually like and b. would be cute and stylish in both environments. As I was digging and researching for some outfit ideas, Nordstrom’s brand Halogen kept coming up. Their tops consistently caught my eye and I could see how versatile each could be. All were sophisticated enough to wear in the workplace, but did not lack style details which made them cute for weekend wear too. I ordered quite a few to style for you guys, so I really hope that you enjoy. I’m excited for your continued feedback on posts like this! One of my favorites was this polka dot sweatshirt. Yes, I said sweatshirt. It really looks more like a sweater and the darling polka dots and removable ruffle collar take it to the next level, without sacrificing the comfort. Here are some ideas on how to style it for workwear and weekend wear! Workwear Weekend Workwear: Polka Dot Sweater | Similar Pleated Skirt (Above the knee length) | Similar Pleated Skirt (Midi length) | Similar Pumps | Work Tote | Sunnies Weekend: Polka Dot Sweater | Black Skinnies | Black Satchel (Similar) | Wedge Sneaker | Sunnies For work, I styled it with a pleated leather skirt that I’ve had for years and threw on a simple heel and a monochromatic work tote. An easy (and comfy) Fall transition look to wear in the office. You could also pair it with a black skinny pant and cute flats (THESE from Tory Burch are actually amazing for work and currently 40% off!) to completely change the look. Easy to pair with a cropped blazer or sweater and a pretty heel. They feel so feminine and are easy to work with. A cute look for running around on a Saturday, Fall activities or a patio lunch on a cool Sunday! Polka Dot Sweater | Black Skinnies | Black Satchel (Similar) | Wedge Sneaker | Sunnies One of my favorite features of this sweatshirt is the removable ruffle collar. It adds just the right amount of detail to dress it up and if you remove it, then you’re able to layer any button up underneath! I think that it would be SO cute with a chambray button up underneath! As I was putting together this post, I ordered a ton of pieces to style and had the absolute hardest time deciding which look I was actually going to shoot. If you need more inspiration, here are some other great Halogen tops that are SO functional for work + weekend. Here’s a peek at how I would style each both ways. I’m doing a full try on session today on my Instagram Stories and will go into more detail for each outfit in tomorrow’s post…so stay tuned for both! This little plaid peplum is too cute! I kept it and added it to my Fall wardrobe, because it was just too functional and fun to pass up. It’s a great plaid in Autumn colors, has a cutest peplum hem and complete with a black grosgrain tie at back. Workwear Weekend Another peplum…shocking, I know! This black lace top is a great, thick lace ruffle at the hem. It also has the cutest cap sleeve and really adds a touch of femininity to any outfit. It is sheer, so you do have to wear a black cami underneath. I was able to do SO much with this top…easy to throw a blazer over for work, wear with contrasting boyfriend jeans + heels for a date night look, and even dress down with a long cardigan and leopard mules. Workwear Date Night Casual Chic Next up this bell sleeve sweater! It will be on the blog on Thursday, but here’s a peel at how versatile it is. The knit is thick but really soft and it’s perfect tucked into all of your high waisted pieces for Fall. It comes in 3 colors and I am really LOVING it. Workwear Date Night Casual Chic Last up is this feminine ivory blouse…made even better with ruffles and this georgette fabric! I love it worn alone with the pleated skirt, but it’s also perfect with this knit tunic vest layered on top for a great casual look. Workwear Weekend Would love your feedback on this post! For you ladies who work outside of the home…was this helpful? If you don’t work within an office dress code…I still think that these tops would be super functional for Fall as Sunday Best pieces!
