Weekend in Blowing Rock + Sales! February 14, 2016 | Hi friends! How was your weekend?? Ours didn’t go quite as planned due to my sweet girl being knocked out with a tummy bug all day yesterday (and daddy being out of town certainly didn’t help), but hopefully we are on the mend and ready to take on the week. Instead of a moodboard, today I’m sharing our weekend in Blowing Rock, NC and giving you a guide to all of the fun we packed into 24 hours there! I’m also recapping the MAJOR sales going on today, so if you’re not into 100 photos of our little family, feel free to scroll to the end of this post for some total steals! So, back to Blowing Rock, it’s a quaint little mountain town about 2 hours northwest of Charlotte and is perfect for a weekend getaway. Since this is the hubs’ busy season, we rarely get a weekend when he’s not working at some point, so when we do, we usually try to get outta dodge. What we love about Charlotte is it’s vicinity to so many fun destinations, we are truly only about 2-3 hours from the mountains OR the beaches…it’s great! We headed out early on a Saturday morning, and made it there just in time for a late breakfast. The drive is so easy, which really helped. After breakfast, we checked into the Chetola Resort and got all of our stuff settled in. It’s such a stunning property and is set far off of the beaten path with a long winding driveway up. There are swan filled lakes lining the drive and it’s so enchanting. There are condos that you can rent if you’re with a bigger party, but we stayed in the hotel part. It’s definitely a lodge feel, but our room had been recently updated and was so beautiful. There’s also a big indoor pool, nightly s’mores roasts and the most amazing continental breakfast that’s included! We asked the hotel staff for a suggestion of something that would be fun for Landry to do until lunch time and they suggested Doc’s Rocks Gem Mine. We headed over and had the best time…still not sure who had more fun Landry or myself! You started by blindly picking a bucket of dirt and taking it over to the mining water. There was an indoor and an outdoor running stream where you could sift through your dirt for treasure, we chose the indoor because it was frigid outside. She was SO proud of her treasures. This is one of my favorite photos of her. You could also buy rocks and gemstones in bulk. It was heaven. I bought huge chunks of rose quartz for $2 each! I cannot wait to style them. After you were done mining and sifting through your dirt, you brought your treasure to the gem stone legend to see what you got. We actually got some pretty amazing stones, I was shocked that these came in the $12 buckets. We scored some amethyst, a small emerald (!!!), and some dreamy quartz. These stones are all yours to take home OR you have the option for them to polish and set them for you for an extra fee. It was such a great time! Details from my outfit for the day… Bag |Leopard Tassel | Sweater | Faux Fur Stole | Ring | Polish After we left Doc’s we took some Insta followers suggestions and went to Town Tavern for lunch. It’s a laid back lunch place with a yummy bar food menu. We started with the fried pickles and both ended up getting the fish and chips for lunch, which were great! After lunch, we took at stroll down the darling main street, which is lined with shopping. There were clothing, antique, home decor and coffee shops…we did as much browsing as we could with a curious toddler. This darling coat is on major sale! Hat | Sweater | Faux Fur Stole | Boots | Bag | Leopard Tassel This was Landry’s face when I told her that I wanted to take her picture before she ate her chocolate covered oreo from Kilwin’s…yep, not happy! Kilwin’s is a MUST stop for dessert. They have tons of handmade treats and the peanut brittle is out of this world. After our eventful morning, we went back to the Chetola to re-group and get ready for dinner. We actually took another one of your Instagram recommendations and went to Bistro Roca for dinner. Landry ended up falling asleep on the way to dinner (blame the oreo + no nap) and slept on my lap through our main course. It actually worked out quite well because she was utterly exhausted and mommy and daddy got to enjoy a glass of wine, appetizers and conversation. Dan had the pork chops and I ended up having a scallops special…both were unreal delicious and we received awesome service. Would absolutely head back here for dinner, just make sure that you have a reservation. Although you can’t really see my outfit, I was wearing: this poncho (on sale) + this camo tee + these flares Work up to coffee in bed…I’m never leaving! Comfiest Jammies After we totally took advantage of the amazing continental breakfast at the Chetola on Sunday morning, we headed up to the Blowing Rock to take in all of the views. Clearly, they don’t call it the blowing rock for no reason. #crazyhairdontcare My Layers: Sweatshirt Tunic (on sale) | North Face Jacket | Beanie | Sunnies | Leggings | Nikes More about The Blowing Rock I mean look at this vertical, people.
