One Room Challenge: Week Three October 17, 2013 | Wait, is it really week THREE??! Eeeeek halfway! My time away really threw me off and I could have sworn it was only week two. Things around here are coming together and and it’s looking a lot more like a functional. If you are just joining me you can catch up on what we started with here in week one and then again in week two. I’ve been teasing you on Instagram with some DIY sneaks, so I am finally sharing them in all of their glossy glory. Here’s what the office space is shaping up to look like. I love it. I am already happier sitting here typing to you…can you feel it? The red desk is a DIY below as is the chair. The lamp and shade are both from Garden Ridge ($34 total!) and I also plan to add black poms to the shade. I added leopard remnant fabric to my existing cork board to add another pattern to the space and anchored it down with gold tacks to add interest. The silhouette is of my gal at 3 months and it makes me oh-so-very-happy. I also plan to spray the filing cabinet handles metallic gold to match the chair. So, overall, still quite a few tweaks but heading in the right direction. Finished chair. Let’s look at before: I’ve had the below desk since I went off to college. Its been painted a many times, but I still love the lines and shape of it, so I decided to really spice her up. It took a TON of sanding down, two coats of white primer, three coats of high gloss spray paint in red, and one coat of clear lacquer. That all sounds daunting but it really did not take long at all and I am beyond pleased with the end result. Total Cost of re-finish: under $35 She’s been a trooper. I would say with me through at least EIGHT moves. I visit our ReStore often and spotted this chair a few weeks back. When I decided to refinish the desk I knew that it would be perfect for the look that I was going for. I LOVE the shape and its actually really comfy. Luckily for me, the chairs were buy one get one free that day (YEAH!), so I got two chairs (the other one lives in my entryway now!) for $30. We shall say this one cost $15. I used Valspars Metallic Gold spray paint on the frame and cane back and it took two coats (only one can). I scored the faux rabbit fur on sale at Hancock’s for $8 (5/8yd). Once I detached the seat I just wrapped and stapled the fur down and re-attached…that easy. Total cost of the chair: under $30. For next week I should have: fabric picked out for headboard and cornice box (and hopefully these are DIY-ed and hung) a clearer picture on lighting a chest of drawers refinished for beside the bed fun artwork to share Make sure that you are following along with our fantastic hosts below: Calling it Home Chinoiserie Chic Classic Casual Home Cottage and Vine Design Addict Mom Design Crisis Design Indulgence Design Manifest The English Room The Green Room Interiors Henhurst Interiors Little Black Door Maddie’s Nest Mix And Chic My Notting Hill Pawleys Island Posh The Pink Pagoda Shelter Simple Details The Vault Files as well as everyone who is linking up…the rooms look ah-maz-ing!
