ONE ROOM CHALLENGE: WEEK 5 May 1, 2014 | Week five of the One Room Challenge, babes…here we go! If you’re new around these parts, catch up here, here, here, and here. Not a big fancy update for you this week, as I am saving the full room for the reveal…so just some snippets of what got done this past week and some insight into what didn’t get done. After last weeks post and the 4 weeks I spent hem-hawing around over my wing back chair, I rushed to the fabric store to find something to recover it in. I think that the room needs a statement chair, I found the perfect medium green velvet, and my husband has been begging for something that reclines, so I was thinking this would be a win win situation. Until I got to the upholsterer. My friend here recommended him and I’ve seen his work on her stuff, so I thought that this was going to be great and then he proceeded to tell me the lead time was 3 weeks. I may have acted like I was going to cry. I can usually take this act pretty far and turn on the water works for NO reason at all (you should be so lucky to ever witness me getting pulled over), but this poor little man was so adorable and no less than 90 years old, so I restrained myself. I put in a few good words about his great work and pleaded with Jesus that it would be ready in time, but that forecast is looking pretty grim. Won’t she be pretty though? Here are a few other things that were done this week… I found the most adorable Etsy Shop to help out with my pillow situation and I LOVE what she did!! More info about her shop and the pillow next week! Still have some tweaks to make, but it will happen. You might remember that these puppies were in the plan for last years ORC, but my IKEA store had them recalled at the time for some scary electrical hazard something or other. Well, they are back in this plan and I hope that they work for the space I’m thinking. Remember this media cabinet hot mess situation from last week? Well, if you follow along on Insta, you saw that I stripped it down and added mirrors (stay tuned for that source, you won’t believe it). I’m working through styling it out and am about 70% there. I also got a plant into my gold planter, some fun tchotchkes to style with, and finally ordered prints for the focal wall. Wahoo. Now on to the bad news. We worked SO hard on the breakfast nook cornice board this weekend. I mean SO hard. We followed along pretty closely with a very detailed online tutorial on how to put together hinged cornice board fit for a bay window. After nearly divorcing over the assembly of the thing, we went to hang it and really there was going to be no hanging it. It just wan’t going to work and it was such a bummer. We are trying to think of another option, but no promises. And what’s really sad is that it looks SO good otherwise. Boo. There ya go, your week 5 update. I hope to see you next week for the Big Reveal! I’m super excited to show you everything and most of all, can’t wait to kick off my shoes and enjoy our new family room! Now make sure to check out these rockstars and their week 5 progress…I’m already counting down for the reveals…there will be some serious shortness of breath with how good these rooms are! Abby M.
