Mood Board Monday: Our Office + Playroom Makeover! February 1, 2016 | Hi Friends…well, it’s Monday again…at least I have some fun Mood Board inspo to brighten your day! I’ve given some hints on Instagram and Snapchat (@styleyoursenses) that I was starting to work on a big project, and today I’m spilling the details. We are officially re-working our media room (yet again!) and creating a shared office + playroom. If you’ve been around from the veryyy beginning, you know that we’ve already re-worked this room once before as part of the very first One Room Challenge I did (you can see that post HERE). Now, two years later, we are looking at the space a little differently and making some ch-ch-changes. Initially, we converted our “media room” (read: oversized, space above the garage that’s too big to go to waste) into a triple threat: guest room, office, and playroom, but now we need less of a guest space (remember we gave our guests a pretty little space HERE) and more of an office + playroom. The space became so chaotic that I abandoned my desk top and have been working solely from my laptop at my breakfast table. This means total disorganization on my part and is just no bueno. Landry was also overwhelmed by the space and how crowded it had become and began migrating her favorite toys back downstairs and thus crowding our living room. Time to re-think. I want to create a chic + girly space that her and I can co-exist in. One that’s as pretty as it is playful and fuels both of our creative juices. Now that she’s so great at playing independently, having a place to work while she plays will be perfect for us both. We need tons of organization and I plan to use to massive perimeter of the room to accomplish that. I was super inspired by THIS DESK (I feel like I will be wayyy more productive at a mirrored bamboo desk, right?!) and THIS RUG (I love how the feel of kilim is casual but the colors fit into our girly + glam color palette). Here are the rest of the plans… JavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. Reactivate it to view this content. Turn on your JavaScript to view content Beaded Chandelier | Print | Lamp | Chair | Desk | Sconce | Marquee Letters | Ikea Shevling | Kilim Rug | Storage Baskets Looking to Ikea for lots of storage, and if you followed along on Snapchat this weekend you’d know that we certainly got that accomplished. I will have everyone know that I personally put it all together too! I also found the perfect blush drapes there for $10 for 2 panels…score! As you can see the room is based around blush, blues, and ivory with lots of gold accents and tons of texture…pretty typical of how I roll. The rug, desk, sconces, letters, storage units and lamps are all ready to go…but I’m still undecided on the desk chair and overhead lights. What do you guys think? Now, let’s take a walk down a very ugly memory lane to see how this room has evolved… OMG. I cannot believe I’m reliving this. This is what it looked like when we first moved in….a total dumping ground and where old and ugly furniture went to die. I cringe. Here’s what we turned it in to after the first go round…full reveal HERE. Lots of primary colors and functional (at the time) being a guest room, office and playroom. Here’s where it stood a few weeks ago: To be fair, this was about 20% of the way through purging the whole thing, so it’s a little messier than normal…but honestly it was a wreck daily. Bed moved out about 6 months ago to make room for bigger toys and it just became a zoo. Moving that playhouse out (honestly why was that ever a good idea), and finally selling the leftover headboard that I thought I would repurpose as an inspiration board (yeah, no). Here’s the full punch list: –Paint the space bright white (went with SW: Alabaster and it made a HUGE difference) -Rewire can lights into pendants -Remove cornice + replace with curtain rod -Assemble organziation -Find baskets for cubes -Hang sconces, marquees and art -Source play table for LK -Frame art -Find Desk Chair (suggestions welcome here!) Wish me luck! I cannot wait until this space is done and we can happily co-exist, yet both have spaces that we love and feel comfortable and creative in! Make sure that you are following along on Insta + Snap to see progress along the way!
