The Best Nighttime Skin Care Routine for Women in Their 30s July 2, 2018 | Good Monday Morning Friends! Thank you for being here today for my nighttime skin care routine post because I know that it’s an off week with July 4th hitting mid-week. I hope that you guys have fun plans and are planning to relax and enjoy family and friends at some point this week! We are off to Seaside, FL bright and early in the am and to say we are excited would be a wild understatement! It’s our favorite place on the planet and we can’t wait to be back. I’ve written multiple posts about Seaside, but THIS ONE is my favorite with everything you need to know (including where we are staying again this year). Anyway, back to today’s post! This is another highly requested post and I scooted up to publish today because one of my go-to skincare brands is 20% off!! Here’s a full breakdown and what I consider to be the best nighttime skin care routine for women in their 30’s. I will begin this post by saying that I am NOT a skincare or beauty junky. I go for routines that are easy, fuss free and efficient. I am so ready to go to bed at 11pm, that I’m not going to devote the time to a 30 minute end-of-the-day beauty routine. I will also say that I do not have any botox, or fillers. I’d be lying if I said that I haven’t considered it, but I am not there yet. I feel like I have a few other skincare issues to tackle before I dive into that. My Current Skincare Concerns: I have very hormonal breakouts. My skin’s appearance is heavily dependent on what time of the month it is and also what I’m eating. If I’m close to my cycle or if I’ve eaten more dairy than I should I notice cystic breakouts, uneven/red skintone and even more of a dried out texture (magnifying fine lines). Not eating / heavily limiting dairy is the absolute best thing that I can personally do for my skin. Fine lines + wrinkles. Yep, forehead stripes (as Landry refers to them), crows feet and more defined jowls are definitely something that I’ve noticed within the last few years. Texture + Moisture | I typically have more oil prone skin, but oddly enough it dries out SUPER quick, so I have to find the right balance of a moisturizer that keeps my skin glowing without it being too heavy to clog my pores. My Current Nighttime Skin Care Routine: (Note that I don’t think that this will work for EVERYone, given my aforementioned specific concerns, but I DO think that these specific products will work for the majority of you!) Cleanse: I use CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser for everyday. It’s gentle, but really effective at cleansing, balancing and even offering some anti-aging results. I apply the foaming cleanser to my Clarisonic Brush and use it as a dual cleansing + exfoliating opportunity. I love the way that the Clarisonic makes my face feel and I definitely think that it keeps my skin exfoliated and fresh. If you don’t want to commit to a Clarisonic, try THIS ONE on Amazon for under $20 * Tip: I clean my Clarisonic brush heads in these steam bags twice a month. Typically, it removes most of my makeup, but if not, I use these wipes strictly for my eye makeup. I find that most makeup wipes tend to break me out if used all over my face. Side Note: If you are not typically prone to breakouts, you’ve got to try THIS cleansing balm. I still use it intermittently because I love the way that it feels, but I do think that it clogs my pores a bit. I did just order THIS GEL cleanser since it was 20% off and gets amazing reviews from my friends! Anti-aging: Ok, here’s where you should tune in because these two products are actually amazing for women in their 30’s! My absolute favorite beauty weapon in my 30’s has been a micro-needling roller! If you don’t yet have one, I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend getting one ASAP! My mom got me the GloPro last year for Christmas and I have throughly enjoyed it and use it nearly every night. The difference with the GloPro is that is has an LED light on it and claims that cells exposed to LED light in this manner regenerated hundreds of times faster than those that weren’t exposed. LED or not, I’m a huge believer in Micro-needling. What is Micro-Needling? What to expect? Micro-needling is exposing your skin to small needles on a roller device in order to purposefully puncture or damage it in order for it to regenerate new, fresh skin cells. When your skin goes into repair mode, it’s producing new collagen and elastin and you wake up with more of a fresh, dewey look. I notice a decrease in fine lines, improved texture and definitely a decrease in scarring. I also feel like I’m sort of aerating my skin, opening my pores and getting them ready to throughly absorb my moisturizer and night cream. I’m not sure why any woman wouldn’t be using a micro-needling roller at this point! You can expect it to hurt a little. I’m so used to it by now that it’s nothing, but it is slightly uncomfortable in certain areas. You are really able to control everything according to how hard you’re pressing on the roller, but I think that there does have to be some pressure applied to see results. You skin will be slightly red after use as well. *Tip: fill a small travel spritzer bottle with rubbing alcohol and sterilize your micro-needler after each use. If you’re not ready to make the investment in the GloPro just yet, I would try these from Amazon that are under $30: 3-1 Micro Needling Roller (has 3 roller sizes so that you can use on Face, Lips, and Body / great reviews, too!) Lip + Face Combo Roller Set (this comes with TWO rollers in different sizes so that you can use the smaller size for eyes and lips and the bigger size for the rest of your face without having to switch the heads out. great price + great reviews. Tone it up! In your 30’s skin does start to lose elastin and you’ll notice the beginnings of the droop. But this little tool is great to help keep your facial skin toned just like you’d work to keep your other muscles toned! The NuFACE is a non-invasive tool that generates a micro current to stimulate the larger surface area muscles of the face and essentially give you a 5 minute face lift! I use this 2x a week on nights when I’m not using the GloPro! Hydrate: Ok so we’ve cleansed, we’ve fought fine lines, we’ve opened our pores and now we are ready to hydrate our skin and go to bed! I have to be SUPER careful with moisturizers for the same reasons that I’m picky about cleansers, but I feel like this combo is truly the Holy Grail for me. For my base moisturizer I use the CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion. It’s lightweight, is absorbed quickly and does the job without feeling very heavy on my skin. I love this line and use the AM version too, which contains 30SPF and is super lightweight as well. You can get a decent discount on the PM + AM Moisturizers HERE. To this moisturizer, I mix in the Colleen Rothschild Age Renewal Super Serum and it’s honestly a GAME CHANGER. I do feel like this stuff is well worth the price tag (currently 20% off, too), lasts forever and can be used morning and night. It receives perfect reviews, wins all sorts of awards and really is a great serum for women in their 30’s who want a little of everything without having to buy 100 products. This is a must have in my book. For my eyes more specifically I’m hooked on the Colleen Rothschild Retinol Supreme Eye Serum. Using this, coupled with religious micro-needling around my eyes, I’ve noticed a huge difference in the appearance of my crows feet and under eye circles. Both have improved dramatically and this combo is definitely the secret sauce for youthful, refreshed looking eyes. The eye serum is also 20% too! Mary Fields says July 2, 2018 at 8:31 AM Hi Mallory, Have a ball on your trip. If you haven’t eaten at The Bay, I highly recommend it! It’s owned by chef Jim Shirley who also owns Great Southern in Seaside. Great location, good prices, kid friendly, excellent cocktails and the best food we ate on our last trip. https://www.baysouthwalton.com/ I’ll be purchasing my micro needler today! I admire how dedicated you are to taking good care of yourself even with little ones! It is so important.
Ren says July 2, 2018 at 6:05 PM Hi Mallory! I hope you have a great time in Seaside. It looks like a beautiful place. Thankfully I’m only 3.5 hours from some lovely, quiet NC beaches! I did try to open the “watermelon cottage” link and the second one as well. What I saw was definitely not a beach cottage????. Don’t know if it was just my device or something else. Just thought you might want to check it out. Have fun!????????????????
Lisa Provost says July 2, 2018 at 11:04 PM I love a lot of the things you do to your face! I’ve tried all brands, Burt I keep coming back to Rodan and Fields!! Their Micro Derma Roller does NOT hurt and does not leave your face read!! They do Not don’t advertise any of their products, but yet I just found out they are the #1 skincare in Northern America and they are just barely starting to go into other Countries!! There stuff is top notch and I wouldn’t go back to anything else!!
Allyson says July 4, 2018 at 7:10 AM Love this post!! Sent it to my best friend as well and now we both have micro-needling tools in our amazon carts! Do we need to apply anything special before we micro-needle, such as a vitamin c serum?? And you said you use yours almost every night… should we do it every night or a few times a week?! I need all the tips, girl! Thanks!!!
Andrea says July 9, 2018 at 5:06 PM I love this post and so appreciate you taking the time to offer up your personal favs. I read on a previous post that you struggle with melasma. I have similar issues to you with sensitive combination skin that tends to have hormonal cystic breakouts. Very frustrating in my 30s. I also have melasma and similar coloring to you. What SPF do you use? How do you keep your melasma at bay in the sun? I too have young children, and staying indoors isn’t an option. I wear hats and sunscreen and still combat hyper-pigmentation issues all summer long…particularly on my upper cheek area. Any insight you can give would be much appreciated!
