So I Married a Blogger…the REAL Scoop From the Hubs February 12, 2016 | Hi Friends! Instead of The Friday Edit (I’ll have a Saturday Edition up tomorrow!), I have something WAY fun for you guys today in celebration of Valentine’s Day! My friend, Claire, rounded up a group of amazing bloggers and had us all forward along a quite funny set of questions to our significant others and today you’ll find out what it’s REALLY like to be married to a blogger. The hubs and I met 8 years ago in a bar (there’s hope, ladies) in Dallas over a super cheesy pick-up line that we often laugh about. We’ve been married for nearly 6 of those years, have had 3 apartments, 2 homes, 1 dog, 1 baby girl and a cross country move to Charlotte. We are complete opposites in so many ways, but it’s almost a guarantee that we will order the exact same thing off of any menu. Just like any married couple, we definitely have our ups and downs, but he’s one of the main reasons that this blog is here. He’s my cheerleader, my sounding board and often times my DIY handyman, even though he barely knew how to use a hammer when we first met…he’s come a LONG way! So here’s what he had to say about being married to a blogger….his answers are in bold and mine are in italics…I’m totally calling him out 😉 Q: How involved are you with Mallory’s blog? D: INVOLVED…physically, emotionally and on a rare occasion – strategically….but that last one is predominantly Mal. I really enjoy some of the ideation that she lets me take part in, in terms of what to introduce to her audience, how to stay relevant, etc. Really, honestly….I am learning a lot from my wife….she is very creative and talented…and make me look good!! M: Okay, physically AND emotionally??? Boo, we might be taking ourselves a little too seriously now. Like how he uses the word “ideation”…umm Websters please. He REALLY wanted to just say: SEE HERE. Q: How often do you read the blog? Are you an avid reader or do you see enough at home? D: Yes and YES! From afar, I mainly consume the blog from the email that accompanies each post created. However, I am typically there seeing over her BEAUTIFUL shoulder the night before what the context of the post will include. So I have an idea on what it is when it comes in. That said, there are also times when I am fully involved in a post (for days at a time) before it hits the social media chatter…like a room makeover (we’ve done lots!). M: What he really means is that he shudders at the mere whisper of the phrase “One Room Challenge” Q: How much time does Mallory spend on her blog? What are her hours like? D: Hours on end…..from gaining inspiration for content, to staying on top of the industry trends, to physically writing a post, it’s really a full time gig. Oh and by the way…..super awesome mom all while doing it!!! I will say that over the past month, she’s really nailed down a schedule and it’s freed up lots of her time. M: Thanks for throwing in the mom trophy, babe! And the only reason that he knows about how the schedule is paying off is because I actually have time to cook dinner now. What, you mean you were getting sick of Chickfila every night? Blasphemy! Q: Are you the cheap manual labor or is there hired help for that? In other words, does Mallory use you for your handy work? D: Again…..Yes, and YES! We do both. I have been heavily involved in some projects (installing, uninstalling, cutting, hanging, measuring, balancing…and of course: TAKING PHOTOS….although the good ones are outsourced M: He definitely helped so much, but the truth is that hanging a cornice board or getting the focus right on my DSLR camera just isn’t worth our marriage. I’m fairly particular about how things go and, well, that just wasn’t going well. I’m happy to out source most of the labor now…and still have a husband at the end of the day 😉 Q: Describe Mallory’s style. D: Oh boy….I can see her laughing right now as I attempt (daringly) to answer this question…what I would say (safely) about Mallory’s style is that, she owns it (YOU OWN IT BABE!), which I think is very important in that she is true to herself and believes personally in what she writes, posts and by and large endorses. You don’t ever have to wonder if she was doing it for business or for followers. Simply put, Mallory’s style is authentic…and she rocks. M: Read: Her style is strange and I don’t understand it, but I just nod and make sure to always say she looks thin and pretty. Q: Describe your style. D: Mmmmmm…more laughing…as I can see her answer this one for me, but I will attempt nonetheless. My style, I have things I am very particular about, but I struggle with colors at times (can’t tell some of the shades) so I have an in-house expert I rely on. Admittedly, that doesn’t always mean I take the advice though, as I am told….oops! So this is kind of a non-answer. M: Y’all, he’s legit color blind and STILL doesn’t take my advice. I swear I tell him, “Babe, that’s blue” and he will continue to argue that it’s purple. It’s a futile battle. I’ll take this opportunity to describe his style though…fit navy suiting with bold check button down dress shirts for business and comfy Nike activewear for the weekend. Q: How often does your home change? D: Changes with each post and new content. M: That’s not true. It changes in some way probably once a month though 🙂 Q: How many different sofas have you had since marrying Mallory? D: Dangerous question….I might tear up if I think too hard about how many have come and gone before their time is complete. I would say between 10-15. M: OH PUH-LEASE!!! That answer is TWO, two sofas my friend! Q: How often do you offer decorating advice? Does she consider your opinion? D: I try not to step on that pile of mud (or other substance). I voice opinions based on comfort mostly (like a couch’s depth) or anything electronics…that’s my department babe! M: Thanks for the input, babe! Good luck with that… Q: What’s your favorite room in the house? Why? D: The family room. It’s where we lounge, where we are most relaxed, where the day is done. I also like the photos and images that hint around the room from our family and our travels. That said, she has done a phenomenal job with the master bedroom and, in terms of the blog…the nursery was a stunner…she knocked that project out. M: Thanks sweets. Q: What does it really look like behind the camera? D: Well this is the funny part, most of the time it looks great to me, but I am often told differently. M: It looks like a tornado. Q: What is a project that you hate but have never voiced (or maybe you have)? D: DON’T MESS WITH MY MAN CHAIR! It’s the one piece of furniture that I thought I should have higher percentage vote on…..I was wrong. Also, room makeovers should have a much longer shelf life! LOVE YOU BABE! M: Sorry about your bad luck with the man chair. You know where I stand on recliners, consider this emerald green velvet a happy medium 🙂 Love you back! See the man chair… Q: Do you know of Mallory’s blogger friends? If so, who’s your favorite? D: I do….I know several of them. Of course I am NOT picking a favorite! M: Way to keep it PC, boo! Q: What’s your favorite aspect of Mallory being a blogger? Least favorite? D: That Mallory can have a creative release that fulfills her and all the while being a true entrepreneur. It is what she has always wanted and what’s good for her is good for me! M: We really like the “Happy Wife, Happy Life” motto around here. Q: What are your household chores? D: We share most of the chores. I take out the trash, split dish duty and toy clean up each night, depending on who has bath duty. I am yard detail mostly, though she helps a lot as well. M: He does help out a lot. He’s at his sexiest when he’s unloading the dishwasher. Can I get an amen, ladies?! Q: What’s something about Mallory that her readers might not know (but she would be okay with you sharing)? D: DANGER ZONE (insert skull and cross bones!!!)….ummmm….this is where I pull a Cam Newton at Super Bowl post-game interviews… M: Okay there’s nothing THAT bad… Q: What does Mallory REALLY want for Valentine’s Day, and what are you getting her? Mallory’s Valentine’s and birthday are only 4 days apart, so I often think of the two together and this year, she really wants a night out. We went pretty big last year and a night out turned into a weekend in New York and passes to Fashion Week for Mallory to have fun while I took care of home, so this year, I think she wants a good night out with her family, and to relax and celebrate… M: Celebrating them together is always the first mistake, babe. Two separate occasions. He is normally a very thoughtful gift giver and since he won’t be here for Valentine’s Day, he did surprise me with some beautiful roses and my favorite dessert before he left. If you still need inspo babe, I’ll just take these. I hope that you guys enjoyed our little Q&A. There are 20 other hubbies waiting to spill the beans on what it’s like being married to a blogger.
