How to Combat Dry Winter Skin February 20, 2019 | Good Morning, Friends! Today I have a really fun and a little out of the box post for you today- I’m diving head first into beauty and more specifically beauty products to combat dry Winter skin with Nordstrom. The cold dry air can be so annoying to deal with and it often leaves my skin feeling dull, pale and overall not it’s best. I also don’t love the feeling of being pale and washed out and I really have to kick my skincare and makeup routine into overdrive to bring my skin back to life, keep it feeling fresh, full of moisture and maintaining the dewey glow that I like. I’m sharing some tried and true tools and makeup tricks that work and also a few new products that I’ve added to the mix that have really been game changers. *If you are on Instagram there will be a makeup tutorial there today as well that will show you how I apply everything and how it wears throughout the day. I’ll also save it to my highlights in case you read this later. One | Cleansing Brush / Cleansing is always such a huge part of skincare. I love this brush because it has durable silicone bristles and 4 different cleansing speeds. It really gets cleanses deep down and does a good job of starting to exfoliate. Two | Glo Pro Micro Needling Roller / I sing the praises of this thing all of the time! I love that the surgical stainless steel needles roll over my skin to promote cell rejuvenation and aerate my skin to prepare it to absorb my moisturizer. Three | PMD Micro Dermabrasion Device / This is a fairly new addition to my skincare game. It really does wonders for essentially sanding off dead skin cells. This is especially important in the Winter months to keep your skin bright and youthful! Four | Trish McEvoy Daily Exfoliating Pads / These exfoliating pads are great for everyday use and I totally notice a difference in brightness and skin clarity. Five | Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream / I personally don’t own this yet but it’s on my list to buy next. Now that I know that Charlotte Tilbury products don’t react negatively with my skin, I’m diving in head first. This moisturizer receives RAVE reviews and I’m dying to try it. Six | Glow Pad for Face / To me, maintaining at least a slight tan throughout the Winter is key to keep a healthy look. You can read all about my tanning routine HERE, but I think that these glow pads for face are a great, easy way to infuse some color into your complexion on a daily basis. Seven | Brightening Youth Glow Primer / This primer has been a WONDERFUL addition to my makeup bag. It gives off a luminous base layer and really primes your skin so well for foundation. Eight | Wonder Glow Light Reflecting Cream / I mix this Wonder Glow cream with the above primer and it adds a healthy glow to my skin. The formula reflects light so well and it does wonders to bring the skin to life. Nine | MAC Pro Long Wear Waterproof Foundation / This is definitely more of a full coverage foundation, which is what I personally prefer. I love that it goes on so smooth and really locks in moisture to give a dewey glow that truly lasts ALL day! Ten | Airbrush Setting Powder / It’s been really tricky to find a setting powder that doesn’t make your face super matte. Typically they give me a dried out look and it makes me crazy. This one by Charlotte Tilbury has been a game changer in that it gives a great airbrushed finish without taking away from the dewey glow that I like. It truly sets your makeup ALL DAY. I’m color Medium. Eleven | Glam Glow Eye Shadow Palette / Hands down my favorite palette, especially in the Winter months. It really gives off a gorgeous healthy glow and brings my eyes back to life. Twelve | Beauty Light Wand Highlighter / Highlighting can intimidating because you don’t want to look SUPER made up, but when done well it makes such a difference in the appearance of your face. This wand makes it so easy to apply and almost fool proof. Thirteen | Faux Tan Bronzer / I’ve been using this bronzer FOREVER and it’s been great for year around color. It gives an airy bronzed look and I love the pigment. Fourteen | Plumping Lip Balm / I was complaining about my dry lips and the lady at Nordstrom recommended this YSL plumping balm as a go-to neutral and it’s a total game changer. It’s tinted beautifully but goes on like a lip balm and gives off enough shine to almost pass as a gloss. It’s SOOOOO good! I wear color “Mad Nude.” How to Combat Dry Winter Skin | The Tools In the Winter, making sure that your skin cells are turning over on a regular basis is the best way to maintain a fresh look during the colder months. I achieve this by alternating between my PMD and GloPro, and using exfoliating pads nightly along with moisturizer. The PMD essentially sands off old skin cells for an at home microdermabrasion treatment. It works wonders and I would highly recommend it as an effective at home tool. I also mix in the GloPro every other night and really use it to boost skin cell repair and increase collagen production. It also works wonders to aerate my skin so that the moisturizer is really able to penetrate the top layer. I also mix in these exfoliator pads and use them right after I’ve taken my makeup off. They do wonders for sloughing off old skin cells and brightening my complexion. Glow Pad for Face / Trish McEvoy Daily Exfoliating Pads / PMD Micro Dermabrasion Roller How to Combat Dry Winter Skin | The Makeup This primer and wonder glow combination has completely upped my Winter skincare game. I’m finding that Charlotte Tilbury really knows what women my age want and these are two of my favorites from her. The Primer does a great job of prepping your skin for makeup and still maintains a healthy glow, avoiding that matte finish that I dread. I often mix it in with the Wonder Glow which adds a slight touch of color and really reflects light off of your face giving you a bright, awake look—which is key in the dead of Winter. Brightening Youth Glow Primer / Wonder Glow Light Reflecting Cream Once my face is primed for makeup, I really find that the Mac Waterproof foundation is best for me. It gives a full coverage, dewey finish and really lasts ALL DAY! It’s by the far the best long wear foundation that I’ve ever worn. I typically have multiple shades in my makeup bag because I’m always getting a spray tan so I really like mixing them for a custom shade. MAC Pro Long Wear Waterproof Foundation From there I really add life and color back into my face with the Glam shadow palette, my absolute favorite mascara, the Charlotte Tilbury light wand, Bare Minerals Faux Tan bronzer and the YSL plumping balm. The combination gives the the healthy, dewey glow that I feel is so important for a youthful look, especially in my mid-30s. Glam Glow Eye Shadow Palette / Plumping Lip Balm / Beauty Light Wand Highlighter / Plumping Lip Balm Plumping Lip Balm I’m showing this exact makeup application on Instagram. No fluff, no filters and nope I am NOT a beauty blogger. I’m sure that I don’t use the right brushes or exact techniques, but I do love makeup and apply it how I feel it’s best for my face. Here’s the finished look with the products that I spoke about. They give a natural, beautiful glow even in the dead of Winter and I love how easy they are to apply. Just for grins I wore the above makeup all day—in the 40 degree DRY, COLD desert air yesterday and was still shocked at how well it wore. The above photo was taken at 7am and the below was at 5:30—with ZERO touchups (aside from lips) and zero filters. All you busy ladies who are looking for a makeup combination that will STAY PUT, this is it! I really really enjoyed working on this post and would love your feedback on other beauty topics that you’d like to see here. I’m always so so impressed with expansive beauty assortment both in stores and online at Nordstrom. I was able to get every single product I mentioned there and it really saved me time. The staff is knowledgable if you go in store and the online experience is equally as good. When I made these updates to my makeup bag a few months ago, I was too excited to wait on shipping so I purchased online and picked them up in my local store an hour later. It’s always a wonderful experience! Thank you to Nordstrom and ShopStyle for sponsoring this content. All opinions, and product selections are my own and I always appreciate you supporting retailers who make Style Your Senses possible.
