Holiday Dress Review November 6, 2016 | Hi and Happy Monday! How was your weekend?? We went to see Trolls (it was so cute), watched LOTS of Football (even though my team couldn’t pull off the W), and spent time with so many groups of friends…definitely the recipe for an ideal Fall weekend to me! Ever since 11/1 I feel like Christmas really is barreling towards us faster than I even have time to think about and along with that, my bump is growing at the same speed! I decided that #1) people start looking for Holiday dresses early because you have enough to worry about and don’t like the added stress of waiting until the last minute #2) you have to buy early if you want the cutest dresses because in a few weeks they will be picked over #3) if I was going to do a Holiday Dress Review I had better get on it before this bump completely outpaced me! So last week I bit the bullet for you guys and tried on my 10 favorite Holiday Dresses and am reviewing them here…along with listing lots of other beautiful options that weren’t available in store for me to try on! From feminine and classic to a little daring and trendy, I’m hoping that I’ve covered most occasions here. I found myself gravitating to a lot of 2 piece options that involved higher waisted and full party skirts paired back to slightly cropped and jazzy tops. I also was very drawn to jacquards and velvets, bringing in that 70’s look that’s really trending right now. Of course, there are also plenty of metallics…because you know me 🙂 **I’m wearing all of my regular sizes in these dresses (size 6 or size M), unless otherwise noted to give you an idea of fit. I’m also 5’9 for an idea of length. If you are pregnant and have questions about what I would suggest for sizing any of these with a belly, please email me (mallory@styleyoursenses.com) This is probably my favorite two piece option. This skirt is a total wow piece and the photo is not doing the rich emerald green ANY justice. It’s a show stopper for SURE! I paired it with this cap sleeved jewel neck top that’s really pretty but also doesn’t take away from the skirt. This outfit is SO versatile and you really can wear both pieces over and over again. I love the thought of pairing a very simple gingham button down with this glam skirt for an unexpected outfit perfect for hosting a more casual Holiday dinner party. I also love that this outfit is completely ageless….I would wear it and would also suggest it for my mom! Jeweled Top | Emerald Skirt I kept the same jeweled top on from the last outfit and paired it back to an all black textured skirt. It’s a little less loud of an outfit and also felt a bit more dressy on. The textured stripes definitely have some metallic threads throughout and make it catch the light beautifully. Another way to glam the skirt up is wearing it with an off the shoulder or v-neck body suit! Jeweled Top | Jacquard Skirt Okay now I’ve switched out both pieces and am now wearing a slightly cropped sequin top (VERY lightweight and flexible) and a tulle party skirt. I liked that this skirt wasn’t overly full of volume like a lot of the tulle party skirts can be. It’s super lightweight and has a very feminine and flowly feel to it. Another great option to wear tons of ways for the holidays. Think bodysuit, crisp white button up, or even use it to dress up a cheeky Holiday tee 🙂 Beaded Top | Tulle Skirt This dress is a wow piece. The metallic jacquard fabric literally jumped off of the racks at me, begging to be tried on…so of course I obliged. The classic off the shoulder + A line silhouette just screams Jackie-O and I adore the updated bright and bold fabric chosen for it. Pair it with either a statement earring or velvet shoe and you have a completely gorgeous outfit. Metallic Fit & Flare Dress This little off the shoulder number is a bit more casual but another versatile option for so many events. It’s only $88 and you really should click over to the product image to see how beautiful and rich this hunter green color is #ihatefittingroomlighting! I love it paired with a velvet choker and it’s definitely a dress that’s forgiving enough to enjoy lots of Holiday desserts 😉 Off the Shoulder Dress This dress was probably the most simple of them all, but it’s a super flatter and always timeless little black dress, of which you really can’t go wrong with. It’s got a delicately beaded neckline for a little jazz and a gorgeous asymmetrical ruffle across the front. The fit is super flattering and that’s truly the focus of the dress! Asymmetrical Peplum Dress Ya’ll these maxi dresses all literally blew my mind. I was so impressed with each of them and would have a really really hard time trying to decide which one to buy…should I fit into any of them by the time my events roll around! This black maxi with sequin details and lace sleeves is an absolute stunner. It shows off your curves and even accentuates the waist with gorgeous ruching. It’s not all over sequins, which I love, but is just accented with them. The lace sleeves absolutely sealed the deal for me on this beauty. It screams sexy + sophisticated and is even a great option for a New Years Eve ball! I would pair it with these earrings! Sequin Lace Dress This little two piece number is a brighter way to approach the Holidays and the winter white tulle skirt is absolutely beautiful without being too full. When I was just standing normally, my midriff didn’t show. The top is a bit cropped but the skirt fits high on the waist so it’s doesn’t expose much. This dress felt glam and fun and I love it paired with these rose gold earrings. Sequin Two Piece Dress I picked up this dress with fairly low expectations. It kind of blended into the rest of the assortment, but the length and the metallic threads caught my eye so I decided to try it on. I’m so glad that I did because I LOVED it! It felt super chic on and had just enough sparkle to make a statement. To me, this is a dress that you will wear Holiday season after Holiday season. Pair it with these earrings and this cuff. Metallic Fit & Flare Dress Okay, I saved the best for last! I nearly fell over when I saw this gown…olive green, velvet and floor length…it’s what my dreams are made of! I’m not kidding you when I tell you that it’s one of the most gorgeous dresses that I’ve ever tried on. The velvet burnouts on top of the metallic give it so much depth and it’s just so unlike so many dresses out there. If you are looking for a show stopper, this is it friends. Pair it with these earrings and this handbag and you have a knockout formal look! Velvet Dress My Holiday Dress Shop: Turn on your JavaScript to view content
Jenna says November 7, 2016 at 3:39 PM #6 is most my style, but those last two maxis are like, wow!! So pretty! I actually just bought a dress today for my husband’s company holiday party and it’s navy blue (which I think is a little unexpected for a party dress?!) so I think I need a sparkly cardigan to wear over it – any suggestions? It’s a navy blue openwork lace over a sheath -fit and flare style. Love this post! I think everyone is already gearing up for the holidays so I love all the “early” holiday posts I’m seeing around the blogosphere this year.
