Guest Post: Living Room Before & After June 10, 2013 | Meet my dear friend Sloane’s charming and bright living room. I fell in love with this room the minute I walked in…there are so many layers and textures that make the space feel so cozy, yet not overwhelming. I asked Sloane to tell you guys all about it because #1. She’s ridiculously talented #2 She’s the queen bee of a bargain (why we are such great friends) and #3. Her husband does some amazing carpentry and helps her out with lots of DIY’s. The before and afters are unreal and she even breaks down how she did it all below. Amazing job girly!!! Sloane: We purchased this home in 2010 and everything in it was original to the house which was built in 1991. The living room walls were a lovely shade of goldish-beige with a gold ceiling fan, gold door knobs and zero charm what-so-ever! After about 10 gallons of paint, new crown molding/ trim work, many hours of DIY-ing and lots of furniture/home decor shopping, our living room is the most charming room in the entire house! I live to find a great bargain, so I visited flea markets, TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, & Homegood’s religiously until I had the perfectly curated room without having to break the bank. I am proud to say that the only item that we paid full-price for was the sofa! Can you believe how bright and airy the room feels? I love how she hung her curtain rods 1+ foot higher than the window…it gives the room such height! Oh, hello gorgeous mantle…you weren’t there before. What an amazing idea…use pages from your favorite illustrated book as cheap framed art. Love this vignette Can you believe that she found this at a Flea Market?! And of course, I love anything painted BM Grey Sweatshirt! Ikat X Stools-Homegoods Coffee Table- World Market Wingbacks- World Market Porcelain Garden Stool- Big Lots for $20! This was the most labor-intensive painting I have ever done. I was scared to death to take on such a task, but could not pass up the opportunity because it was on clearance for $500! What a steal!! I love this piece because I can close the armoire doors if I want to read a book without distraction and hide the TV. However, I can only do this with the permission of my husband when it is NOT football season! Thanks again, sweet friend, for showing off your amazing space!!
