Landry’s Floral and Fun Big Girl Room Reveal! November 21, 2016 | Ahhhh today’s the day….LANDRY’S FLORAL AND FUN BIG GIRL ROOM REVEAL!!!! So over-due and super emotional for me, but here it is! If you guys are new here, the short story is that Landry’s nursery really kicked off this blog for me (see the original post from 3.5 years ago HERE). It’s led me to crazy cool opportunities, amazing friendships and ultimately a career more amazing than I could have imagined. That coupled with the fact that a big girl room really means that I don’t have a baby anymore, has made the transition a little emo for me. It doesn’t help that I’m pregnant and literally cry at the drop of a hat anyway. Landry has been in her big girl bed for right at a year now and I’ve been dragging my feet on pulling the space together, but the minute I found out that #2 was on the way, I knew that it was time to get my behind in gear. Both she and I still really really like the wallpaper, so we decided to keep in there and create more of a “big girl” space around it! I kept her changing table and converted to more of a dresser a long time ago. It also switched to the opposite wall and we added some lamps, a large gold mirror an original abstracts to make it feel more grown up and less baby. We got her a small bedside table for her treasured clock (the girl loves a clock…lol), a lamp for bedtime stories and a few special photos. We also brought her makeup table in from her playroom and created a fun little space around it with the tassel garland and stuffed unicorn. We switched up her striped drapes for clean and beautiful roman shades from The Shade Store, which have been a total lifesaver and completely changed the feel of the room. Lastly, and the big dilemma of the room, was replacing the framed monogram above her bed. I went back and fourth between art work or a new monogram and finally landed on this larger block style monogram and we are loving it as the scale works much better with the headboard and romans. Everything else pretty much transitioned over from the nursery seamlessly. A FUN & FLORAL BIG GIRL ROOM: Here’s a quick peek at what her nursery looked like: And now the same shot, but as a Big Girl Room… I really feel like one of the keys to the transition was swapping out the faux silk drapes for these gorgeous and clean roman shades. They brighten up the space and really make it feel refined. I was able to custom design them to match her room at The Shade Store and they were literally measured, cut, sewn, shipped at at my door in less than two weeks. For gorgeous custom window treatments, that’s simply unheard of. To read about my detailed experience at The Shade Store….see this FULL POST. This little makeup table is one of her favorite things. She puts all of her “jewels” in it and endlessly plays with her pretend makeup brushes here. It’s also her final check point to make sure that her bow is positioned just right…lol Since the makeup table is toddler sized, it left quite a bit of open wall space above, so I decided to play up some height and make it the center of a vignette. The tassel garland is fun, lightweight and inexpensive, but makes a pretty big splash in the room and always catches the light so beautifully. The stuffed unicorn head is something that Landry chose for her room and I didn’t complain one bit as I equally adore it’s whimsy feel! It’s an awesome price at under $20 and was perfect for over the makeup table. We added a sequin collar (that no longer fits LK) around her neck to jazz her up even more! See the full selection of adorable + affordable animal heads (for boys and girls) HERE. The biggest dilemma of the entire room was what would go above the bed. The nursery had a big open white frame with a smaller gold monogram inside of it, which we loved. Once I replaced the drapes with the romans, it changed the feel of the space above the bed and I felt like I needed something larger in scale to stand out. I tried 3 pieces of art, none of which were a good fit and finally circled back to the fact that I just liked a monogram there. After what felt like trying 100 different size combinations, I landed on a traditional block monogram in large letters and am so happy with them. They stand out enough to make a statement, but don’t really compete with the wallpaper or romans. Like I mentioned earlier, we moved what used to be her changing table over to the opposite wall and now use it fully as a dresser for storage. The piece in her room is vintage (a Craigslist score), but I really really love THIS ONE that also comes with a changing kit option so it’s truly a piece that can grow with baby. I found the mirror via AT HOME and spray painted it gold. I love the girly shape of it! I flanked it (I have a thing for symmetry if you can’t tell) with adorable blush pink lamps that are an amazing price and look perfect with the wallpaper. On top of each, I hung custom artwork from a collaboration between two of my favorite artists. If you are not already following these girls, they are MUST follows. Miles Purvis Art @milespurviaart) Marquin Designs (@marquindesigns) …each are available for custom commissions similar to ours or on a much larger scale! So, what do you guys think? How did we do? Landry definitely loves it, so I’m calling it a win. Squeaking in with just under a week until we find out the sex of our new little baby and start planning nursery #2!!!
