DIY Dainty Headbands February 17, 2013 | In need of some retail therapy a few weeks back, I fell for the easy (ETSY) way out and literally went to town buying headbands. I think I bought 10+ in one sitting…whoopsie! Once I received them, I must say I was a little let down. Surely I could find stretchy elastic and make something similar for less than the $8/ea I paid for them, right?! After a quick trip to Hobby Lobby I discovered that it was possible and that was indeed where my ETSY finds were from in the first place. I stocked up and made an obscene amount for both girls…see below. I found that the “supplies” were in multiple places…so here are a few tips. The pre-made flowers and pearls were in the scrapbooking section. They already come with a sticky back, but I added hot glue to be sure. The stretchy, lace headbands come pre-made in a pack of 3 and were on an end-cap geared towards head-wear. They are $1.99 and come in variety of adorable color combinations. Another DIY I learned was how to make the cute fabric rosettes. I don’t know why I found them intimidating because they were actually SO easy. Simply tear fabric into 1′ thick strips (and about 36 inches long, depending on the size of the rosette you are going for), fold tightly into 4ths and hot glue, then twist fabric around the center, hot-gluing along the way. Back it with a piece of felt and hot-glue onto desired headband. I also added little pearls and jewels to the center of the rosette. I didn’t go out and buy fabric for this project, instead using scraps I had at home, but the possibilities are endless. Check out all of the finished products. So cute, right?! I would say they ended up costing $1.00-$1.25 each….wahoo! It’s so much more fun to see Miss Priss in them 🙂
