One Room Challenge: Week TWO October 10, 2013 | The theme for this weeks post is “What did you accomplish or learn?” So here goes. Since Friday night when I decided to jump on board at the last minute I have actually accomplished quite a few things in regards to the ORC and definitely learned a few along the way…whew what a weekend! Did I mention that LK and I are spending this week in LA so I am virtually cutting out a weeks worth of time and decided to cram it all into Saturday and Sunday of this past weekend. I learned: I am impossibly and unrealistically impatient. It’s always been one of my biggest shortcomings, but geeeeeez louise during projects like this I really lose my mind. I want everything coming together just the way I see it in my head…immediately. Oh and waiting for paint to dry….not happening. I have to literally remove myself from the situation. Now tell me again how I became a DIY-er?! Speaking of being impatient…I mentioned the budget was tight, so I started cruising Craigslist for the bookshelf I had in mind for the play area. I found one with casters. and cubbys. and so I bought it. Measurements? Nope. Well, its definitely longer than expected, so the floor plan is getting a bit shuffled…but I will tell you I totally dig it. Leading right into my next learning…. I am pretty great at making things work. Bookshelf too long? No worries…adjust floor plan, take curtains up, re-situate lighting. Done and Done…and I actually like it so much better this way. I am a legit thrift store shopper. I still hate to sew and refuse to do it. Will work around this. My husband surprised me at how willing he was to help. Sanding, moving, drilling, etc…Poor guy. Thanks for being such a great sport, babe. I accomplished: Reconfigured layout of the room to match what I presented last week. Did a furniture/frame/knick knack cleanse and donated a ton of stuff. Yeah!!! Sanded, primed, painted and lacquered desk for office space. Found, sanded, painted and recovered desk chair for office space. Found and bought bookshelf for play area. DIY-ed no sew, custom bedskirt for guest bed. BTW, daybed skirts are extremely hard to find and super ugly…adding to that they are all standard length and our bed is on risers so that we have storage underneath so buying a pre-fab skirt was out of the question. You guys are going to die at how easy this DIY is. DIY-ed adding pom pom trim to pre-fab IKEA panels. Another no sew…hallelujah! Okay so I’m exhausted but am really happy with the progress! See a few sneaks below! Think red gloss + lacquer glaze + gold hardware….yummy! Think metallic gold and fluffy white faux fur…girly glam desk chair. My co-pilot looking all cute sanding down the table. NO sew?! I think so! Bedskirt and curtains. Sorry for all of the teasers but I promise I will share the full details on these DIY’s next week! Okay so here’s what’s still on the to-do list: Lighting: Honestly I’m a little stumped here. Overhead lights are probably not an option, so I will have to go with lamps and sconces. Hopefully more progress here next week. Upholstered headboard? With the bed on risers and the slanted wall we spoke of, I honestly didn’t think that the bed would need a headboard….but it kinda does. I DIYed the one in our master and its super easy, but am thinking that I might try some skill saw action on this one. Wish me luck! Art. Here are a few Etsy prints that I’m loving. Need to decide on a few for each space. Okay so that’s it for this week! A lot done and even more left to do! When we get back in town on Sunday night I will be back in action 🙂 Until then make sure that you’re following along on Instagram for some sneaks Make sure to keep up with the rest of the ladies here.
