One Room Challenge: Week Four October 24, 2013 | Oh what a week. And do you know what I have to show for it? Well, the truth is not very much. Thank goodness you guys approved of the red desk last week and obviously think that I have my shiz together way more than I actually do. Catch up here: Week one. Week two. Week three. To give you a sneak into how much things are hitting the fan around here…well baby girl is sick. First time that she’s ever had a fever. And I’m having my rookie mom moment (that I’m allowed to have, right?!) and am pretty much freaking out. It’s gotten progressively worse and refuses to break completely. The Dr. encouraged us to watch it through the night…which of course I’m terrified of and will mean no sleep. Let’s also mention that it’s game one of the World Series…meet my Cardinals crazed husband who cannot control his emotions when it comes to his beloved Redbirds. So since it’s 5-0 at this point you can imagine his…shall we say… “Excitement.” Bring back poor, sick baby who finally went down….for about two minutes…then she woke up screaming bloody murder. We make a mad dash upstairs, leaving half eaten pizza on the table (trying for one EASY thing today, guys) and come back down to find none left. And garlic butter sauce splattered and thoroughly soaking into the hardwood floors. And pizza sauce from here to kingdom come. The dog is 8 lbs y’all. She will surely be ill…but looking very please with the 3 slices of pizza she’s just inhaled. The best part is…after everything was cleaned up…I still couldn’t shake the garlic butter smell. Why you ask? Because the dogs entire left side is soaked in it. Guessing it fell on her before hitting the floor. So now we have me (an even hotter mess than usual), holding a sick, crying, pitiful baby who just wants her “ma ma ma” and then we have a poodle covered in garlic butter and a less than enthused husband having to fore go multiple innings of the World Series while he bathes the garlic butter poodle. I can’t make this stuff up. Where are the hidden cameras?! Back to the challenge…please tell me (based on the above) that you’ll let me slide this week. No fancy pics or fun vignettes… But a few updates, nonetheless. *Took a family field trip to Lowe’s on Sunday afternoon and got all of the supplies for the headboard and cornice box. Check Check *Trekked out to an amazing fabric store about 30 min outside of Charlotte. Found some fabric for headboard and cornice. Got home and sun delay hated it. Stunning. Giving us some time apart, hoping that when I see it again we fall back in love. Playing around with the fabrics, can’t make up my mind. Hot mess for now. *Refinished an old chest of drawers that’s been hanging out downstairs. It was legit ugly and is still not exactly what I would call beautiful, but she’ll work. *Totally scored an old reflective metal chest at the Salvation Army store for $15! Will use as a toy box in the play area. *Made a trip to IKEA and got everything under the sun…except what I actually went for! Anyway, I did buy pendants that I’m hoping to make work as well as her chalkboard and frames for a fun art project. * The curtains were hung and made a HUGE difference in the room. They await their cornice. So, there it is, my pitiful update. Make sure that you go check out our hosts and the link-up as I am certain they will have some amazing things to share with you. Linda {Calling it Home} says October 24, 2013 at 9:16 PM Oh, so sorry to hear about the baby. I was always a nervous mom. The first….everything was scary to me. I'm sure she is already fine. Bad Dog! I am living with Red Sox fans over here. I am trying to sew and want them to turn down the tv…won't happen. I actually like the fabric combo but I know that things look different in real life. You are doing fine and don't need to make excuses when real life is always more important.
Linda {Calling it Home} says October 24, 2013 at 9:18 PM I almost forgot, you can get special 'toy box' hinges that close slowly so kids fingers don't get caught when the lid shuts. I think HD sells them?
charmingincharlotte@gmail.com says October 25, 2013 at 3:43 PM Linda-thank you so very much!!! Will look for these next time I'm there! Xo
Carol says October 24, 2013 at 11:13 PM Oh, I can so understand your "pain" with a sick baby. My grandbaby is also running a fever – and doctor says wait it out. Oh, and did I tell you she is out of town at a conference with her mommy and daddy. Oh yeah! I love that blue and white checked fabric, but then again color can change on line. Hope it works for you. Looking forward to seeing your next update.
charmingincharlotte@gmail.com says October 25, 2013 at 3:44 PM Oh carol poor sweet baby! And her parents! The blue check is staying just not sure of her home yet 🙂 xo
Beth of designPOST Interiors says October 25, 2013 at 12:44 PM You, understandably, got knocked off your game this week but I am sure you will get back on track! Sometimes you have to bring fabrics home and love with them a little to figure out the best combo. I am feeling like you need some green thrown in…maybe instead of the black! BTW I am in Charlotte as well 🙂
charmingincharlotte@gmail.com says October 25, 2013 at 3:36 PM Beth! Totally agree on the green, it needed some other "pop." I played with the fabrics last night and I think that we are all good. Amen! I just saw your guest post on LBD…I just had a baby girl as well and since we just moved to CLT a yea ago I love meeting new people…let me know if you're up for coffee sometime! Xo

Cherish says January 4, 2014 at 4:22 PM Hi, just found your blog, fellow newbie to Charlotte, too. Love your style and this room makeover. Do you mind me asking what the beautiful print fabric is that you paired with the gingham/buffalo check? I love it!
charmingincharlotte@gmail.com says January 4, 2014 at 8:50 PM Hey Cherish! It is just a stock fabric from Mary Jo's. Have you been? If not surely worth the field trip to Gastonia.. Hope that you are liking CLT…your blog is adorable!
Cherish says January 5, 2014 at 12:02 AM Mallory, thanks for the info! I have not been yet but plan to go sometime in the very near future. It reminds me a lot of a store we had in VA called U-Fab, except bigger and better. Thanks again! : )
