Our Weekend in Asheville March 3, 2014 | Well leave it to us make a decision to get out of town on Saturday morning at 9 am! We have been feeling the need to get out a town for a while now, but never pulled the trigger. Packing for a 1 year old gives me hives…how can a little person need so much!? Well, this time D really didn’t give me the option to say no. We booked a non-refundable night at a hotel in Asheville and vowed to head out of town. Since we had a birthday party to go to on Saturday, we decided to plan our drive during LK’s afternoon nap…and it worked like a charm. She woke up as we were entering Asheville. Hallelujah! Since we really only had 24 hours there, I wanted a hotel that was close to everything and very walking friendly. We ended up staying at the Grand Bohemian in Biltmore Village and, truly, I was wowed by our stay. Not the biggest fan of lodge decor, I will say that this place did it right. They didn’t miss one detail and managed to make it extremely elegant, yet very rustic and manly. All of the halls were lined with original artwork and the ground floor also housed a fairly large art gallery. They also always had fresh, hot apple cider in the lobby…um, check yes. Truly, it was an amazing stay and we will definitely be going back. Saturday night, we walked around and did some shopping before sitting down for dinner at the Corner Kitchen. Our food was absolutely delicious (we both chose the locally caught fish specials) and the locals were so so sweet to LK…basically entertaining her as we ate. Sunday we woke up and got in line early at Tupelo Honey downtown. I’ve told you we tried out the Charlotte location, but heard that the original is truly a must eat in Asheville. At around 8:30 (they open at nine) the line was long enough to seat the entire restaurant. geez! Our food was great though….D and I both chose their version of eggs benedict (think over biscuits and not english muffins) with a side of goat cheese grits (mouth watering, I tell ya) and LK thoroughly enjoyed her sweet potato and cinnamon pancakes. After some scenic riding, while baby girl napped in the car we decided to tour the Biltmore. Overall, LK was a doll baby and very cooperative during the tour. She wanted to be held, but understandably so. She did manage to launch her paci about 30 feet into one of the roped off “Living Rooms,” which caused a loud giggle among the other tourists. I wanted to just leave it there, but thought that might look a little “un-original” to the decor, so we tracked down a guide and had her fetch it for us. What a commotion 🙂 After a quick lunch, we headed back during the babes afternoon nap and she peacefully slept the whole way home. It was such a welcome and lovely weekend out of Charlotte and I can’t wait to plan more of these as the weather warms up. See more pics on Instagram! What we will do for a decent pic. This is mid-twirl! This makes my heart want to explode Celebrating Mardi Gras in NC! I hope that you guys had a great weekend! And Happy Lundi Gras!
