Help! Please? March 5, 2014 | Okay, I’m in need of some serious help. Normally, I can stare at a problem area in my home for a bit and a decor solution will come to me fairly easy…well, not the case here with these lovely bay windows. Please understand that I understand how ugly this situation is. It’s bad, and frankly I’ve stared at it long enough. The sad part is that we spend a TON of time here. To your right is our living room and to the left is the kitchen…all one open space, which we love but it makes pulling both spaces together really hard decor wise. Okay back to the problem…these windows need accessorizing in the worst way and I cannot for the life of me come up with something. Here are some facts: I love the natural light and don’t want to lose one ounce of it. The angles make cornice boxes hard…any advice here? The wooden blinds that were here when we bought the house are fairly nice and I hesitate to take them down, as we will be selling this house sooner than later. Can I layer treatments over the blinds? Is that a no no? Do I take the treatments higher than the windows because to me the windows are at an awkward height? ((taking them to the ceiling in the living room and windows are at same height)) We are painting all adjoining rooms are very pale grey I am painting the table top a black lacquer and giving the chairs/base a fresh coat of white paint These 3 awkward windows have two other awkward sistas is the kitchen…see photos I am no bueno at this kind of Photoshop, but tried my best to give you an idea. How it looks now. Just plain fuuuugly. Sink windows. Awkward. And was someone drunk when they installed the recessed lighting canister closest to wall?? a little caddywompass don’t cha think? Option 1: With pale grey walls and updated table. Bold Stripe Roman Shade. I love it isolated to this area, but may be a bit much for the collective space? The plans for the living room are very similar to this moodboard. Option 2: Basic Flat Roman shade with simple black trim. This is probably my favorite and could be an easy DIY….but can I layer over blinds? Another reason I like option 2 is because they easily translate to this space as well. Don’t you think this corner needs a pendant as well (filling in the crazy canister)? I always feel like I am trying to give this area height with fresh flowers, but it really needs something more substantial. I think that a pendant would compensate for that open space. Option 3: Panels. My least favorite….is there any way to make this option work? You guys are so stinkin creative that I know you’ll help me out, right? I’m at such a loss here, but desperately need this space to be beautified! Thanks, friends!

Beth of designPOST Interiors says March 5, 2014 at 4:10 PM I like the black trimmed roman shade (hung high and over the blinds is fine). What if you did some of that floral fabric from the living room over the kitchen windows?? I definitely think you should do some type of pattern over the sink to change it up. And I also like the panels but I would do them to the floor and then a coordinating roman shade over the sink. Emily A. Clark did long panels in her breakfast room bay window with some simple hardware from IKEA. Search through her blog and you'll see it! Hope that helps!
