Let’s Talk Taxidermy

Yesterday, I was browsing Home Goods and (to my surprise) they actually had a phenomenal selection of faux taxidermy…a gilded antelope, a metallic deer’s head, and an over sized white matte moose…Oh my! I swear, I made the loop to come back and re-visit them and they were ALL gone. Within 20 minutes! This brought me to realize that we’ve never chatted about the Taxidermy decor trend…that (according to Home Goods yesterday) is still very much alive and well. Let’s preface this conversation by making it clear that I am from Louisiana and, needless to say, there was always a plethora of taxidermy mounts around that I wanted to have nothing to do with. I swore up and down that I would never have such a thing hanging in my home. Now that this whole incorporating taxidermy into your decor has been around for a while now, and I finally gave into it 6 months ago. I must admit, I’m kinda hooked. I love the way that the raw faux (or real) taxidermy can add an unexpected punch of rustic to any decor scheme. Of course, you can even get them dipped in gold now, which is clearly my preference. So, what do you say…is it a trend that will endure for a while? Or is it quickly fleeting? And, this also brings up the question of how much is too much? Pick a space in your home and limit the taxidermy to just that room or is it okay so have it multiple places? My answers are that I think that the trend will endure a tad bit longer and I prefer it limited to one area. Just my two-scents…See below for some of my favorite sources if you are in the market!
