Dressing for Formal Occasions with Macy’s November 16, 2018 | Today I’m working with Macy’s to talk through the age old dilemma of what to wear to a formal Holiday Party! If you’re like me you get excited at the thought of a formal invite but cringe at the idea of having to find something to wear to it. Formal dresses are just trickier, so today I’m sharing a gorgeous long formal option and am mixing it up with the idea of a dressy jumpsuit for a formal occasion! I’ve also scoured Macy’s (who has the best dress selection, hands down) and have rounded up all of my favorite Holiday dresses below. They are also hosting a “Black Friday Preview Sale” so most are ON SALE—even better! During the . Black Friday preview sale you can enjoy 20% off of select items with code SCORE –Happy Shopping! Red One Shoulder Gown | Red One Shoulder Gown PETITE | Black Velvet Mix Jumpsuit This red one shoulder gown quite literally stopped me in my tracks. It’s elegant and sophisticated but the one shoulder ruffle and beautiful red color give it a little sass. It’s made of a thick scuba material and feels substantial and well made, which is why I nearly fainted when I saw the sale price! The fit is absolutely stunning and so flattering and the double lining really does a number to keep your shape. I paired it with simple accessories and tucked my hair over to one side to show the ruffle and really let the dress shine. I’ve linked lots of beautiful accessory + shoe options below as well. I think that this would be a beautiful dress for a formal Holiday party, Gala, New Year’s Eve or even a Black-Tie Wedding. This dress is a true show stopper and people won’t believe what you paid for it! I’m wearing a size 4. See below for accessories to pair back to it as well! Earrings to wear with a formal gown: Clutches to wear with formal gowns: Shoes to wear with formal gowns: If formal gowns aren’t really your style, consider a formal jumpsuit as they really are appropriate for all occasions and Macy’s has a fantastic selection of them to suit nearly any Holiday dress code. I love jumpsuits because they create long, lean lines and are so flattering. I found THIS ONE at Macy’s for under $100 and was floored by the fit and quality!n I’m wearing the size 4. Black Velvet Mix Jumpsuit It has a gorgeous velvet bodice that does a flattering twist at the waist. The wide leg bottom creates great balance and it was comfortable and easy to wear! Macy’s really does have an amazing selection of Holiday dresses and jumpsuits and I’ve created a huge list of my favorites, making this post a one stop shop when you find yourself needed a dress. Remember to use code SCORE during their Black Friday Preview Sale for 20% off of select items! Thank you to Macy’s + ShopStyle for sponsoring this post, as always opinions, photography and content are my own.
Jennifer Roberts says November 16, 2018 at 10:10 AM Hi Mallory. Thank you so much for this post about formals. I have one coming up. I love your selections, but I’d like to go into Macy’s to try them on rather than buy online. How do I make sure you get credit if I’m in the store (North Park)? Hope your baby girl is healing up. Jen (Remember me? I met you at Ballard Designs. I’m Matt’s friend)
