Back to Basics | Basic Pieces That Will Work Overtime in Your Closet January 30, 2018 | Hi Friends! It’s been an entire week since I’ve published a post over here on the blog…sadly, that might just set a recent record. Behind the scenes have been a whirlwind of chaos that I will share soon, but technology was also not on my side last week…and looking back it was likely a huge blessing in disguise. I’m still working to speed my site up for you all and make the experience overall more enjoyable, so stay tuned because I think we are almost there. Today I have a post that I am really excited to share, because it’s one that so many of you have asked for. This post isn’t about the hottest new trends or what you absolutely need for Spring, quite frankly it’s kind of boring and in a neutral color palette that’s well out of character for me. What we are talking about today is what I feel are the very best basics for your wardrobe, why I love them and how they can work overtime for you! I personally own nearly every piece that I’m sharing today, so I really feel strong about the wearability and functionality of each and am confident that they will be great base layers in your closet too. Aside from being able to layer on top of these pieces, they also function alone and I’m giving you lots of outfit combos below. Let’s think of this like a very very basic capsule wardrobe! I hope that you enjoy! JavaScript is currently disabled in this browser. Reactivate it to view this content. One | Crepe Shift Dress $49 This is the easiest dress to throw on and go. Wear it with anything from flip flops to heels and everything in between. Great for layering and for work, it’s a go-to dress in your closet. It comes in a ton of colors but I personally own and feel like the black is the most wearable. Two | Carryall Tote Bag $65 This is almost identical to the Madewell shopper tote and is less than half of the price! A great size to carry baby things or a laptop for work, but not too big to where it gets overwhelming. It also comes in a ton of colors. Three | High Waisted Skinny Jeans These are my newest obsession. Super high waisted and amazingly flattering..a pair of jeans you’ll want to wear every single day. Other great denim options (see all of my favorites in THIS POST): Turn on your JavaScript to view content Four | Racerback Bra I’ve been eyeing this bra for over a year now and finally bit the bullet and bought it. Honestly, I was expecting it to be more pretty than functional and, to my surprise, that’s not the case. Its incredibly functional and supportive and the pretty lace detail on the back is just the icing on the cake. Hands down the most beautiful bra I’ve owned, too. Five | Suede Mule You guys know that I wear my tan mules nearly everyday and consider them an absolute staple in my closet. Since mine are sold out, these are a great dupe and still offer the same wearability. They are a “go with anything” shoe and the color and shape do wonders for elongating the leg. Six | Long Sleeve Tunic Tee $19 I buy at least two of these every year and have also gotten my mom hooked on them. They are great everyday tees that work for layering or wearing alone and are long enough to cover the bum and can even be worn with leggings. Also easy to knot up in the front should you want to create a waistline. Seven | Peplum Tee $39 Love this little peplum tee for Spring. It comes in quite a few colors, but the white looks so clean and fresh! I love that it can be worn with shorts or jeans and layers well with a cardigan as we trudge through the last of the cold weather. Eight | Cozy Lightweight Cardigan $36 Ok for those of you who’ve bought the twist front sweater, this cardi is made out of the same SUPER soft fabric. It’s such a buttery, cozy material and I can’t believe that this one is already on sale. Scoop up two colors, because it’s even great to lounge around the house in! Other great cardigan options: Turn on your JavaScript to view content Nine | Double Scoop Layering Tank $12 Ok, one of the top questions I’m asked is “what’s your favorite layering tank?” It seems silly, but I have to agree that good ones are hard to come by! I’ve been wearing these double scoop tanks for years now and LOVE them. The neckline is great (not too low, not too high) and the knit is actually stretchy but snug, so that they do offer some smoothing around the tummy and love handle areas. They are a whopping $12, too! Trust me and get white and black. I personally size down in these. Ten + Eleven | Madewell V Neck Tee $19 I’ve raved about this t-shirt for nearly two years now and my love for it still runs deep! It’s the perfect tee, IMO and I now own it in an embarrassing assortment of colors. Not see through, great neckline and a slight boyfriend fit…she’s a real winner. I wear a Small in these. Twelve | Gold Hoop Earrings Another piece that’s been on the blog no less than 100 times. These earrings have been in my closet since 2014 and I still reach for them almost daily. They are incredibly lightweight and easy to wear, but a good size to make just enough of a statement. Thirteen | Gold Bar Necklace I don’t own this one, but I’ve been eyeing it! It’s dainty and perfect to wear alone or build other layers on top of it. Fourteen | Lace Detail Bralette I also just pulled the trigger on this bralette and have to say that it does live up to the hype. It’s adjustable by each of the 4 straps, so it actually does offer support and the details are absolutely beautiful. Fifteen | Slip On Sneakers Quite a few of my friends own these slip on sneaks and rave about them. A bit of an investment, but I can see how you’d wear them quite a bit. Also really love the neutral color options that they come in! It’s a true basic that works overtime in my closet! Eighteen | High Waisted Leggings These are my holy grail of leggings. Yes I have and wear other pair, but these are by far the best. High waisted, slimming and a great price. They can easily be worn casually OR to the gym!
