Updating Dated Outlets with adorne by legrand April 13, 2017 | Here we are at Week 2 of the One Room Challenge (catch up on my plans from Week 1 HERE) and I have something really different and fun to share with you guys. I’m trading in talking about traditional accessories and am talking about accessories (or “jewelry” as I like to call it) for your home! This is my second time partnering with adorne by legrand and I have to tell you that I just love the brand and their modern sleek aesthetic when it comes to all things electrical in your home. When they approached me about these incorporating these Pop-Out Outlets into our home I knew that they would be a perfect fit for the nursery. Not only do they go perfectly with the aesthetic of the design (hello, they blend right in with the wallpaper), but they are also super functional and good to have in a baby’s room because they are tamper resistant through a patented shutter system that only conducts power through the outlet when a plug is detected. All of the parents, rejoice as you’ll never have to childproof these outlets!!!! Now for even more great news?? They take about 3 minutes to install and you don’t need an electrician! Keep reading to see how my hubby switched these out in about 10 minutes flat (never having done anything like it before) and gave our sweet nursery a major upgrade from traditional outlets. Just a little reminder of how else we’ve used adorne in our home. About 2 years ago, we updated all of our switch plates to these brass beauties with adorne’s soft touch switches. It’s funny because (like you guys know), we’ve done a ton of aesthetic upgrades to our little home and this one truly is one of our favorites. The brass plates and modern design automatically make the spaces feel more high end and we both love the functionality. I cannot tell you how many people come through our home and these are the first things that they comment on. Okay, back to pop-out outlets! Like I mentioned, Dan had never done anything electrical like this before, but the amazing thing is that legrand has a TON of “how-to” videos specific to EACH of their products on their website to serve as a resource for homeowners who are installing their products. After watching the video (check the end of the post to watch it yourself), we both felt really confident that this was a project that we could handle. Here are how the outlets are shipped…the actual outlet plus the cover. p.s. you can also buy their entire collection at Lowes…or at least head there to touch and feel it for yourself this weekend! Also, we chose the pop-out outlets, but here are all of the outlet upgrade options that they offer. Ummm wifi, yes please! That’s going to be our next install! What You’ll Need: Screwdriver or Drill Wirecutters Step 1: Unscrew and remove old plate and outlet device. Step 2: This won’t be the case for everyone, but for our outlets specifically we were required to cut the wires to free the old receptacle. Step 3: Cut back the wire casing to expose a little more of the wires. Step 4: Slide new receptacle into the new frame. Step 5: Connect the ground wires. Step 6: Connect hot wires (black) and neutral wires (white) into their appropriately labeled slots and secure. Step 7: Slide new outlet into existing bay and screw in to secure. Step 8: Pop on wall plate, super easy! It’s that easy, friends! A major upgrade to your home that can be done so quickly. I’ll share some videos on Instastories so that you can see them in action, but I assure you that these are something to consider…I’m looking at you with those 1980’s shiny brass outlets 😉 P.S. adorne by legrand is also the brand used throughout the HGTV smart home! How cool is that?! Look at how well they blend into the design! I love that when we aren’t using them they can be flush to the wall and are not disruptive. Being flush and blending in so well, we think that they will also be less of a distraction to a curious baby…not that it matters since they won’t even conduct an electrical current unless an actual plug is in place. I cannot tell you how much piece of mind this offers parents like me…worth it’s weight in gold! Here’s a list of everything that they offer, too! If you are currently building or renovating…you’ve got to check out these options! These products are a great way to add some value and functionality to any electrical project…and trust me, the hubby will love the “cool” factor! A quick One Room Challenge Update.
