Hi Friends! I’m sharing something super special with you guys today, my mom. In honor of Mother’s Day coming up, I thought that this would be a fun way for you guys to get to know a little about her. She was in Charlotte with us all of last week and I somehow convinced her to join me in a blog post and share her cute style and a little interview about her journey through motherhood.
I mean where do I even start? My mom is my #1…my #1 fan, #1 source of inspiration and #1 giver of unconditional love. Growing up, I always remember her working on DIY projects, decorating (and re-decorating!) our home, and shopping for the cutest clothes. So, as someone in the south would say, I certainly “didn’t lick it off the bricks” when it comes to what I love. We share so many common interests…like the ones above and also a love of working out, dessert (well, those two are ironic, right?!), the beach and football. She taught me how to make an impressive blackberry cobbler, tried her best to instill in me that I shouldn’t wear white until after Easter (that one didn’t work out too well…), taught me what a first down meant and she’s the only person who will almost always still pick up the phone when I call. She’s my person. And as amazing as she is as a Mother, she’s an even better Gigi. I think that one of the greatest joys of motherhood is actually watching your parents become grandparents. Its magical.
I asked her a few questions about her journey through motherhood (she’ll ask me some next week for part two of this post!) and am also showing off how amazing she looks. Ladies, this is fashion over 50…it doesn’t have to be boring!
How did you juggle working full time and still being a mother who was very “present?”
Well, my free time was dedicated to them. My mornings started at 5:00 a.m. When everyone was still sleeping, I would get up and run so that it did not interfere with their time. My work also allowed me to be involved with school functions. Lastly, I did not have a social life to speak of (by choice) and my weekends were filled with spending time with them.
My mom just retired last year, isn’t that amazing?! For someone to dedicate over 30 years of their life to one company, muchless raising 3 kids at the same time…it’s almost unheard of these days!! So proud of her for that!
Tell everyone something that they may not know about me from reading this blog?
That you dyed your hair orange (not the color you intended) in the 7th grade at a friend’s sleepover.
I will literally never forget this night. It was more like an orange striped zebra. I actually let a 12 year old friend (Lauryn are you reading this?!) pull my hair through a cap and use a box of blonde dye on it…and the orange zebra situation ensued. I didn’t put dye on my hair again until after college…
Notice how she’s rocking my saddle bag for this look? Proof that accessories are so versatile and not age specific.
How cute is this little shift dress on her? It’s a total steal at $58 and comes in a TON of solid colors and various prints! A staple for Summer and easy to throw on and go. For reference, she’s 5’5 and wearing a size M.
I mean, please let me look like this at 57, especially with NO work done and her first facial happened only a few weeks ago. How is that even possible?!
Aren’t these shorts just the cutest? Great for Summer (especially 4th of July) and loving the button pocket details! Also, this linen tunic is probably one of the happiest additions to my closet as of late. It’s the tried and true roll tab tunic that I always wear, but in a lightweight linen chambray and it literally goes with everything. Take my advice and buy two…you’ll wear it that much!
My mom fell is love with my Regan satchel last visit and decided to get one for herself. She opted for the largest size and got it in this beautiful butter color (such a great neutral!). I’m wearing it for this look and am LOVING it so much. As I was writing this post I noticed that it’s now 40% off!!! Regular $375 and now it’s $224! Shop it HERE. Also the smaller size (like the one I have) in this butter color is also 40% off and $194!
Shop Our Looks:

Happy Wednesday! Make sure to join us for part two of this post next week…and some more mother + daughter style! xo

This is the MOST adorable post! Your mom is beautiful and I loved reading her answers to your questions. Loft shorts have been one of my faves since last year. Such a good fit for me and the 4″ inseam is perfect for this girl 🙂 What size are you wearing in the tunic? Love it!
Thanks sweet friend! Wearing a M…you’ll love it!

Thank you so much Haley! She probably wasn’t surprised because she dragged me around shopping since the day I was born…I was kinda forced to like it 😉 😉

First, I cried at the part about watching your parents as grandparents bc it’s so true! I never imagined the joy I would experience seeing how much my parents LOVE my kids and then the LOVE that my kids have for them.
And then I died laughing at the hair-dye experiment!! Thinks about that along with our grunge phase. Oh mais la! I am not looking forward to the teenage years as a mom!
Loved the post and looking forward to reading part 2!
April 28, 2016 at 3:25 PM
Oh man, the grunge phase was the worst…glad she didn’t go into detail about that one. What on earth were we thinking and why did our moms ever allow it?!?!? LOL! Miss you, mama! xo
